Help!!! Right Front turn signal pops fuses
I have wasted pretty much the entire day trying to find out what is causing the right front turn signal to pop the fuse. In addition to the fuse popping I have no voltage to the right side parking light either. I jumped the left parking light to the right and works fine. Everything else works...even the right rear turn signal works its just the front right. At one point the power came back to the front and rear parking light. Does anyone have any ideas? I was installing the front bumper and lights. I also disconnected the wiring from the headlight buckets to the turn signal and still pops a fuse. Would the light switch be shorted?

I would recommend removing the front bumper and retracing all you steps. It is possible the wires were compromised and are shorting out. Check all the wires in the areas you were working for cracks, exposed copper, broken connectors, etc.

I don't have power to the right parking light nor at the fuse box...any recommendations? This all came about after completing my front suspension project.

More info...when I turn on the parking lights the right side doenst turn on only the left, however if I select the turn signal to the right all the lights on the right turn on like they should and so to the left. It also powers up the fuse for the right parking light.

Don't forget that there are several 5/6 pin plugs thru the "firewall" (above your feet) as electrical cables go fore and aft. My shorting taillamp turned out to be corrosion in one of these plugs AND a bulb shorting inside the taillight box. But if your light works with a jumper wire, you don't have a short in the case. Since you had the problem after pulling the bumper, I'm guessing you disturbed a wire or connection somewhere nearby.

One down one to go...found why the rt parking light doesn't work. Started to check the light switch and found a bad diode. I jumped it and now all the parking lights work. Still working on the right turn signal.

Any electrical schematics for a 1986 Carrera turn signals?

I removed one of the lower two green and black wires from the right turn signal fuse block and the turn signals work properly. Not sure what the other wire goes to...does anyone know?

the other bk/gr wire probably goes to the rear flashing light bulb

OK now here is the final verdict...
1- I have no clue why there is a diode in the parking light circuit underneath the dash next to the light switch. 2 - Both turn signal fuses terminals have 2 wires each upper and lower side (block 9-10). I pulled one of the wires from each one (bottom) and depending the one I pull eliminates the turn signal light and the other does nothing. I have a ground on the one for the right turn signal and I disconnected it and everything is working properly. I have a feeling that these are extra wires for the European fender blinkers. Can anyone confirm? |

Already made a manic and lengthy post but digging back into it I couldn't figure out why I had two wires on the bottom lug. If I remove one, which seems to be shorted, everything works fine. I was doing one last look before I left it undone to make sure I wasn't going to cause another issue down the road. This is the only explanation that makes sense and I did have bodywork done last year on the right front fender and bumper. |
