Cleaning Engine Bay With Motor In 1988 On A Carrera

Hi All,

I had all of my FI parts out on my 88 Carrera when I replaced my fuel lines. I happened to notice that my covers were not as nice as they should be. The paint inside on the sides is dirty. I would really like to get it looking like new again. The good news is that I only have now 15,050 original miles on her so it will be easier to clean. None of it is oil or grease. Can I get a recommendation on what to use to do the compartment.
Also, I noticed under the under dash & the wires had a coating of mold. What can I use to clean that and make sure that it doesn't return. (my wife on our last fall ride, left a bottle of water in the car that broke and the water slowly dried with the windows closed. I was able to clean the door panels with boat cleaner and the sun (with the top down) killed the mold coating on the door panels.

Thanks
Jack

I use a lot of stuff depending on the dirt and where it is located. I use mineral spirits for heavy muck, brake cleaner as long as it is not by paint, Armorall cleaner for light work, and automotive grade Simple Green ( no I have not had any problems with it at all, it works great.). Once clean I use 303 Aerospace protectant on vinyl, rubber, wires, etc. I use Mothers mag polish on the fan and housing (it is stock) and liberal use of a detailer spray like Turtle Wax Ice. Oh, lots of different brushes, rags, and shop-grade paper towels.

Avoid the fumes and have fun.

gunk.
Been around for years. Just need to cover distributor and other electrical related areas with some aluminum foil.

Now I have used brake cleaner for my mountain bike but soooo sooo powerful. Killed the grass that I flushed the water on.
Also left an "ultra clean" spot on the driveway.. Hate to get this on the paint..
