3.6 with PMO's, good track setup?

I'm flirting with the idea of a 3.6-50mmPMO's-RS cams for an early 911 light track only car... Looking for any advise, experience or comments on what this setup could produce.
I always liked the simplicity of carbs and the WOT attitude! Obviously fuel mileage is not an issue.

Sounds rockin' to me. I want to build one of these kinds of motors, but I'd like to do ITBs instead of the carbs. The only question might be do you have enough rubber on the ground for that power plant? IMHO you would have to go 930 fender widths at a min...

You may also wish to cross post on the racing and engine forums... I am sure there are some people running this setup.

Best regards,

Michael

You can use the 993RS cams w/ stock Motronic DME. Just get a chip from one of the Steve's.

The allure of carbs is their relative sensitivity to aggressive cams, So if you want a track car and want to use carbs something between RS and RSR cams are called for.

If I wanted to use the more aggressive cams I'd want Motec or one of the other aftermarket EFI's

...However be aware that you can't get more aggressive than RS or Cup cams with the stock pistons due to clearance issues. So to be able to take full advantage of the carbs a number of other changes are required...

LOL,..Very true, but its still going to have amazing throttle response (at least compared to any factory OEM, single-throttle intake system).

PMO's, Cup cams, and a good exhaust system will make over 320+ HP and thats not small potatoes for an early car,...:) :) :)

As always great advise and insight guys!

Yes Michael, I'm going RSR body 11''F-14"R actually I was kind of scared I'd have to much rubber with around 300hp... Going to boost at some point but not any time soon. What do you guys think?

Thanks for those words of encouragement Steve! LOL

Don't get me wrong! If money isn't a question, sure 20k Motec 10 hours of Dyno Tune time... "Not the case! :( "
I might have a good 3.6 short block I could get my hands on for cheap. So I could have a pretty hot motor for not very much money.

EFI all the way...

Carbs are great but for absolute flexibility and power go EFI.

PMO sell some handsome TBs...

That's the problem with just about any change you make to the engine configuration. Change one thing, and you have to change at least 2 others as well. Then you've spent a small fortune, or a big one.

Yeah, and also be careful with the HP if you've got a 901 transmission.
