What is option code a53?
I was looking at the window sticker for my car and noticed that this option cost about 2,500. 79 SC coupe. Thanks in advance!

Option codes for that year start with M?
You sure bout that "eh"? |
Yup, pretty sure. Somebody asked this in 2004, I found out when I did a google search. I was just wondering, for parts support reasons, as my car is bone stock and I would like to keep it that way.

It's not listed here...

It is a pretty major item when the cost is 10% of the car. I'm sure it would be trim items: power mirrors, power windows, stereo system, carpet, and so on. I'd guess it is not related to any performance equipment. You may want to give us a list of the trim items.
What is the full paint code on the badge? |
Here is the complete sticker.
It looks like the stuff you mentioned was all standard, except I don't see carpet. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234974761.jpg |
Just a WAG but I'd bet it's a performance package....
Wheel size, tire size, tire model, Bilsteins etc.... Or its a car phone... |
It could be that everything beneath the brake booster and alloy wheels is part of the package. Once the package is added, the components become STD. I just can't think of what might be worth so much that is not on the list. Therefore it must be a group of the things listed as STD. I don't think the Califoria CAT would cost that much, but as it is not listed per se, then it must be part of the package also.

Maybe the option codes from the "m"anufacturer where coded "m" and the "a" ftermarket ones were coded differently? just a wild guess, Who printed the window stickers? If it was the factory then I guess I am incorrect.

My guess is that it is a package that included Fuchs wheels. In '79, Fuchs were not standard (cookie cutters were). The "standard" light alloy wheels shown on the sticker would have been the cookie cutters.
But, by '79 almost all cars shipped to the US were equipped with Fuchs as optional equipment. Since the sticker doesn't list Fuchs specifically anywhere, including the additional cost, it must have been in option group "A53." (Assuming the car came with Fuchs, which is a 95% chance). |

And if they were 16" Fuchs then they would be more expensive then the 15" Fuchs upgrade, correct? Someone will correct me I'm sure but wasn't it later in the 80's that 15" fuchs replaced the cookie cutters as std wheels? Anyway, I don't have my option sticker on my 911SC anymore BUT on my COA it did mention the option for 16" Fuchs FWIW I'd bet that this was possibly: 16" Fuchs, passenger side power mirror and Leather seats? Do you have a COA? |
No I don't really have a need for a COA because the original owner and the previous owner kept excellent records of everything, even insurance papers and gas receipts.
The car came with 15" Fuchs and the original owner bought 16"s I still have the 16s on the car and the 15s in the attic. Where is the option sticker located? |

Under side of front hood Under the front carpet between the smugglers box and spare wheel Pass side door jamb Original Owners manual Near the VIN and paint code tag in front trunk located on pass side strut tower Good luck! Btw I mention COA because most of them come with a list of your options and codes. Could be very helpful. I called Porsche UK and they looked up me cardex and sent it to me! |
Six years earlier, but I've had the same issue with an option group on a '73.5 T. Sticker lists Option Group G64, and I've had no success learning exactly what options were included in the group. I've even had a fairly lengthy email discussion with the COA folks, and they say all they know is the car came with Option Group G64, with no detail beyond that. And the list of standard features on the sticker does not include any of the items I've deduced came in the group, such as sport seats, factory sway bars, and other goodies. The COA folks say they are continually frustrated by these option groups because they can't seem to find any history on what is in them. Seems odd, but that's what they say.
Best of luck. Mike |
Its the optional pheromone package, it attracts unmarried hotties for those of who look more like Ron Jeremey than Brad Pitt!
