Fender differences btwn years at gas filler area?

I thought I'd ask this again as it's own question as it was part of my larger post (in this thread) and never was answered.

I am replacing my front fenders ('74 911) w/new (to me) fenders from a later car - mid 80's I was told. There are differences in the gas filler cap area that I am unsure about. Does anyone know about these differences?

Specifically:
1. There is a flange attached to the windshield fluid filler spot on the new fender that doesn't exist on my old fender. It seems to slightly impeed the space. Can I cut it off - should I cut it off?
2. My old fenders had a vent hose for the fuel filler neck that ran thru the fender - see photo below. The newer fender lacks a thru the fender hole for the vent. Should I drill one?
3. The old fender has a (grounding?) wire from the fuel filler neck to the fender. The new fender lacks the attachment for the wire. Do I need this?
4. Are these typical issues?

Tom,
The fender you have is from a late 89 car. The last of the 3.2 Carreras had 964 style gas filler necks which will work on your car if you can find one. Perhaps the person you got the fender from has this part. This same group of cars had 964 windshields and roofs

Dan - thanks so much for the response, I appreciate it. BUMMER! I wish I'd known about that before I bought it!

I guess it'd be easy enough to drill a hole for the filler vent and trim off the butterfly thingy - maybe that's the route I'll go. Decisions decisions.

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but I need to find out how the '74 gas filler neck was secured, if at all, in the early fender.

I have an '86 that I'm currently backdating using fenders from a '72, and my Carrera gas filler neck has the butterfly flange on it that mates with the butterfly flange on the Carrera fender. But the '74 and earlier fenders don't have the butterfly thingy to mate to...were the earlier filler necks not secured in the filler opening?

Dave -
My '74 gas filer neck is held in place by the rubber "Fuel Filler Neck Sleeve (Neck to Body)" piece. There is no butterfly flange etc...

see this part:

Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom, that's what I figured. The later Carrera filler neck also has that rubber sleeve, but for some reason Porsche decided to also secure it to the washer fluid opening some time after '74, as in the pic I took below. Does your filler neck move much when you give it a nudge? Maybe I don't need to worry about it.

Hi Dave -
The filler neck is pretty solidly in there. It will wiggle slightly if you really work at it, but I wouldn't be concerned for a second that it'll come loose or rattle around.
