71 911E MFI warmup thermostat questions
 

My car is a 2.2E MFI with a manually adjustable warm-up thermostat (see attached photo). My questions are:
1. If the thermostat is out of adjustment, what if any performance impacts will there be? It appears that I am down in power when the car is warmed up. I also experience a less than desirable throttle response for a MFI car.
2. What is the best way to determine proper adjustment for the manual thermostat?

How does that thing work? Do you have to jump out and adjust once it's warmed up? who put that on?
