Tires for 15x8

I have a set of wheels that need tires. I have plenty of room on the ST and will be running 15x8 Minilites on 4 corners. Was thinking I could find something in a 245/XX/15. I was wrong. The ever shrinking population of 15" tires rears its ugly head.

All of the searches and archived information is seemingly irrelevant since the tire manufacturers are no longer producing much in a 15" size. Let's keep this thread up to date with what I can buy today, not a tire size that someone bought 2 years (or longer) ago.

225/50/15 seems to be the only selection for tires. I do not want a full race tire. these will be street wheels.

I have looked at the BFG sport, Hankook RS2. I don't want to break the bank. $100/tire is more than enough for this application.

Any suggestions on sizes or sources?

I don't know if they're available in the US but I've had a couple of sets of Falken ZieX tyres in 205/55 & 225/50 x 15" sizes fitted to 7&8" Fuchs.

This is the current tread pattern (Ze912):

- about $85 here in the UK

Thanks Andy, I can get 225-50-15 pretty easily. I was looking for a bit more meat.

What model Dunlop? Do you have a source? Their website does not list anything in 245-50-15.

Jamie,

Nitto NT01 comes in a 225/45 15 which has just over a 9 inch sectional width. Thats about the widest I've found. Runs about 140 per tire and is an R compound 100 wear rating. The tread pattern looks ok for street use.

Nitto NTo1 at DTD

BTW, you got that 3.22SS broken in yet?

Tires

Jamie
If you're going to run them strictly as street tires, you might look at a set of Yokohama YK520's.
I've got 205-60's and 225-60's on my 7's and 8's. Nice quiet tire which seems to hold pretty good, at least in the dry.

The second shot is showing the size compared to a 245-50(?)-16 which I have on another set of wheels.

Toyo R888's come in a 235/15's which would be my choice in a heart beat.

Having four of them on the same size rims would be great. Could rotate the rims and tires to make them last longer.

I just wanted to update this thread. I ended up with Dunlop Sport 8000 245-50-15 tires from Performance Tire Plus in CA.
http://secure.performanceplustire.com/products/tires/searchType/searchByBrand/manufacturerID/17/productID_/229/tireSize/245_SLASH_50-15

They have April O8 date codes. I think they are the only place in the US that has these.

They work really well on the ST with the newly installed Minilites. They certainly fill out the wheel wells.

Jamie, I always liked your car with the 17" Lindsey wheels, but those minilites take it to an entirely new level. It just looks stunning!

The front fenders are fiberglass. The rears I did myself.

ST Project update: roll your own(long with pics)

Michael, I agree. I am about to sell the Lindseys as soon as I clean them up. I am NOT going back now.

I'm a big Fuchs fan but those Minilites look sweet on your silver beauty! Or is she grey? Whatever, they look the business!

The Dunlops cause my ST to wander a bit on ruts in the freeway. Have you noticed any of those handling characteristics?

I don't have enough miles on them to notice. We do not seem to have the water channels on our roads. They have more of a crown to control run-off.

They were a bit slippery in the rain yesterday. I attribute that to the high oil content and the fact that we have not had rain in so long here in TX.

Keep me posted. I am about to go with a different tire as I have NEVER been happy with a Dunlop product.
