Carrera script and stone guard
I was wondering if anyone had a picture of a 3.2 with the side Carrera script and the rear fender stone guards installed. Having looked through dozens of threads and pics I saw a lot of beautiful cars, but none with this together.
I have a white 1984 Carrera with the black stone guards and want to add the script, but from my reading getting the stone guards off is a PITA and might damage the (all original) paint too. But I prefer the "clean" look of script with no guards. Any opinions/pics? |

In Buckterrier's link it looks like that owner moved the stripes forward so the lettering avoided the guard.
On our 993 (Clear guards) I put the stripes right over the guards. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1235436301.jpg You have some options: 1 Move the stripes forward. 2 Remove your guards and run stripes. 3 Remove your guards and install clear ones and run stripes over them. (I sell/install clear bra material). Removing your original black guards will be a little bit of a PITA but shouldn't damage the paint. It will be helpful to park the car in the sun and let the material get warmed up, next start peeling it off. if you are lucky you will get a good run and it will come off in one pull...not likely...more likely you will get little 1" or 2" strips. The adhesive will stay behind. You will need a mild adhesive remover like 3M. Or you can use a citrus based bug and tar remover. This will take quite a bit of work and patients. The other alternative is to use a drill driven low speed rubber graphics eraser. I like the stripes on our 993. The 2 tone is a little different. Good luck with your project. Cooper PS the black guards are still available from Porsche should you want to put the car back to stock apperance. |
Thanks guys. Somehow the first thread/pic slipped by me. I'd have to look at the graphics from Mikez when they get here, but if that's what it looks like in person, I may take the plunge and take the the guards off - maybe a job for my local custom shop in that case.

Mine is not a 3.2 but it is white. Hope this helps. I was thinking of removing the stone guards and just having the script. Waiting for summer to peel it off :Dhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1235516110.jpg

damn, picture too small. PM me if you want the 2Mb version

I just removed my side black stone guards in preparation for Carrera side scripts. I used a heat gun on the stone guards and they came off like butter. No problems at all!!!

Where did you guys purchase the rocker stripes?
I am am also looking for hood stripes. TIA. |
I agree....
I'd lose the black stone guards and replace them with clear ones. Then the Carrera stripes will look fine. |
Hi Luvair, Try Pelican Mike Z. He has the graphics.

wife's hair dryer to remove stone guards.. worked fine, peeled right off. ;)

When you pulled off the stone gurds either with hair dryer or heat gun, was there a lot of residue leftover? If yes what did you use to get the residue off?
Was thinking of doing the script as well... |
I have recently had several 993 owners come to me for stone guard replacement. Sometimes the guards come right off in one or two pieces...sometimes they shred into very tiny 1/8" pieces...
If this is the case your best tool is a rubber graphics eraser disc chucked up into a drill. The Wurth ones work the best IMO and are about $25 each. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1250735259.jpg The last 2 993's I did used one entire disc for the removal and about an hour per side! If the car is a driver the right side one tends to get extra baked on because of the oil tank location. For any left over adhesive you can use a product like 3M General Adhesive Remover or SEM Solve...I even use lacquer thinner if it is really gooie! Just be careful not to rub too long in any one spot! I typically follow this up by buffing the quarter panel before installing the new guard. My $.02 Cooper |
Another tid bit here...
The factory book called out Carrera script placement of 50mm above the rocker with the "C" starting 10mm back from the drivers leading door edge and the"a" starting 10mm back from the passengers leading door edge. When we put the script on our 993 this placement looked too high because the 993's don't have the older style rocker deco strips. Lowering the script to 40mm above the rocker solved the issue. Cooper,
Sounds good, I'll give your technique a try! |
