deleting fuses and relays in rear

I have a 1975 S. I recently removed the defroster and the wires to the window.
I traced them back to the defroster relay (silver box) and removed that.
I went back one more connection and separated that as well.

Now I have 3 wires coming out from under the mounting assembly. I removed the assembly and looked underneath, I unwound some tape and traced those wires.
They seem to be going to a relay.

I checked online and in books and it seems that all 3 fuses back there and one of the two relays are for things I no longer have. 1 relay is for the starter enrichment? I probably need that one.
My heater fan has been removed and backdated. My defroster has been removed as well.

I pulled all 3 fuses and both relays and the car started fine.
Do I need these things anymore?
Can I go ahead and pull the relays and mounts. Trace back and snip the wires.
Can I pull the 3 fuse panel and trace back and snip the wires.

I like the look of a cleaner engine bay and when the new engine comes in a few months I don't want all the extra stuff in there.

Thanks.

Is that defroster relay P/N 911-615-115-00? If you don't need it anymore, I could use it in my car. Send me a private message.

Thanks,
Mark

Another option may be to simply separate these wires from the main harness and tie-wrap them in the tunnel where they will be out-of-sight instead of snipping them - just in case you or some future owner decides to put some of this stuff back.

That's an option. I would like to know if I need them before I remove them.

It seems the 3 fuses do nothing for me. 1 relay does nothing and the other relay I might need. I am sure after the rebuild I won't need the last relay.

I have seen some pictures of nice looking engine bays, without the rear cover. I will probably need the room for MSD boxes or some other components. Maybe mount the coil or coils over there.
Just trying to clean things up a little in preparation.

I did this in my '77 3.2. I deleted the rear defroster, rear wiper, heater blower motor, and a few other things.

The fuse panel does provide a convenient source of switched 12 v power for timing lights etc. You should leave the fuses there.

That is the look, I think I will have but mine will be filled back up with new stuff. I will need to mount new components in that area I am sure.

My engine will just be a high compression RS spec with PMOs. Do you remember what those relays and fuses were for?

I am sure you don't need them for your engine, but do you think I will need them for mine?
I don't think so.

I agree with that. I will have to think about it.

I get in these clean out moods and thing start disappearing.
I found a bunch of dead wires under my seats the other day. Turns out they were for the seat belt buzzers or something. They are gone. So are the wires in the belt clips all the way to the trunk.

I tried to remove the defroster switch but it is too hard to get to.
Now I am in the engine bay removing relays. Go figure.
This all started because I wanted to take out the little light between the seats that says "defroster on". It reflects in my windshield and bothers me.

Sometimes I think I am crazy.

If you're switching to carbs you'll be able to clear out as much as I did. I remember looking in the owners manual to see what the relays and fuses were associated with. In my case I didn't need any of them.

I didn't want to leave all that unused 12V power back there (especially 30+ year old wiring), so I stripped back the main harness about 24" or so and removed everything I didn't need, then taped the harness back up.

If I need power for a timing light I'll pull it from somewhere else.

Did you check to see if the charging system was working? I thought one of the regulator wires
went to the fuse panel. I could be wrong but...

Are you asking me? If so then yes the charging system is working fine. I drove the car like this for almost 9 months before taking it apart for paint.

What does that mean, Ronin? Is the 14 pin connection drawing power from somewhere, relays, fuses?

Hi Dipso,

If you get back to trying to get out your rear window defrost switch I'd be interested in buying it from you...PM me if you're interested/motivated in yanking/selling it.

Unless your alternator was replaced with a newer style which has the internal regulator, I believe the external voltage regulator for your '75 is located on the fuse/relay panel (at least that's where mine is).

Do want to get rid of it. But, like I said I can't figure out how to remove it without taking the wiper motor and air ducts out first. Might be a while.

I tried going through the clock hole with a mirror, but couldn't get it.

Yes it is, but that is fine for now. I would like to get the new style just so it looks better.
