need confirmation i think i found my mileage problem!!!
Just tested coil in 1985 carrera I hope my bentley manual is correct it says that ohms resistance between terminal 1 and 15 on the coil (primary resistance) should be
.4 - .7 ohms. I just tested it and the ohms value is 1.2. I have been getting poor mileage and every thing else tests ok. I have been chasing this for weeks, can some one check me out on this, before I break out a cold one to celebrate, thank you JL |
I tested my new replacment coil purchased from our host. I read .4 ohms.
|
touch your leads together, subract that from your 1.2.
i would not worry about it. |
have you changed your o2 sensor....a bad one will richen your car and affect gas milage.
|
O2 sensor was replaced when somog done 2 weeks ago, passed very clean with no adjustments, JL

Your coil may be fine and not the issue. Did you test between terminals 1 and 4?
Resistance should be 0.4 to 0.6 ohms between terminals 1(-) & 15(+) and 650 to 790 ohms between 1(-) and 4(dist.wire term.) |
You are correct the coil tested 1.2 across the two terinals however a fellow pelican reminded me to subract what the two leads on the ohm meter touched together reads which is .6 which means my true reading is .6 which is within spec, thank you JL

When I first got the Pcar, I reviewed the service records and did some general stuff.
-- New plugs -- New spark plug cables -- New distributor cap -- New air filter -- New oil an filter change etc, etc.. Only thing I need now is a valve adjustment (has been too long). Maybe that would help. |
So what was the result? I am on a poor mileage hunt myself - yanked the Weltmeister chip and am pondering new O2 Sensor in my 86...
