Can you tell me about my lights

Ok - I know, they're broken.

Were they stock on a 72T? Are new lenses available? Are they driving lights or fog lights? Were they very bright?

Not stock. Stock fit into the removable panels behind those lights.

Bosch, I believe (or Hella?).

I bet I've got some replacements for those in a box somewhere that I'll never use.

Those appear to be driving lights. Fog lights are fluted all the way across, uniformily. These lenses have a different pattern in the middle.

Hey Milt - let me know. I'd love to purchase a pair?

Anyone know about bulbs? Are the available at your average auto parts store?

If they are typical driving/fog lights with a h-2 or h-3 bulb, most auto stores carry them. Post a picture of the bulb if you can.

It looks like the left light was mounted either to or through the fog light cover of the bumper. Is that true? Both lights should be mounted with the cover removed, like the light that is broken. Is there a custom mount on the left light? Don't know why one would be mounted that way.

If Milt doesn't have a lens, I may have one from a pair of Cibie lights that came on my 75. The lens doesn't match the one you have though. If you are interested, post the measurements of the lens and I'll check.

I removed the cover when I installed a front oil cooler.

So what I'm hearing then is that these are not stock? But I do have the stock dash knob/switch. What should have been installed?

My understanding is stock would be Hella 139 or 169's which mount without the covers on the bumper openings and the mount on the light comes from the back, center of the light, not from near the top. Earlier cars (<69) had the smaller Hella 128 which mounted in the opening but bolted in from the top. Here's what the stock Hella looks like, mounted on my 69:

All this being said, I don't know if U.S. cars came with fog/driving lights as an option in 72 (they didn't in 69) but that doesn't mean they are not correct for your car as they were optional in Europe. It would not be unusual to have the factory switch and wiring installed even if your current lights are not factory. The lights could be replacements or aftermarkets purchased by the original owner and installed by the dealer.

If you are thinking of putting stock Hellas on the car, they are available, but very pricey.
