Early distributor (dizzy) circlip loose? This can't ne good.

Early distributor circlip loose? This can't ne good.

I removed the little felt pad on distributor to oil the distributor as Waren wrote. Well my circlip is in there but it was loose. Like I could pull it out and hold it in my hand. None of the snap ring pliers I have will grab it. At least not on this first attempt. The Dizzy is from a 2.0 E (per its Bosch part no on the side. The motor is a 2.2.

I could send out the dizzy to Loren but would like for it to be A ok wil lil tlc. He did great job rebuilding 3.2 distributor for me last year.

How do you put the circlip back on? I have few snap ring pliers ( couple different sizes and similar yet different tips) from Sears. The shaft comes up, but you push it back down real simply and it stays fine doesn't it? It looks like all it needs is an o-ring and putting the circlip back in, and of course oil inside. No internet at the car so can't read when I am woring on te motor. I guess i must print the old thread.

Any input?

Regards,

Hi Bernard, I just drop the little circlip on the shaft and use a couple small jeweler's screwdrivers to press down on the clip and snap it around the shaft. It's hard to do with a single one because the other side just keeps popping up.

The circlip doesn't need to be removed to oil it. Just a few drops of oil down there - right on top of the shaft and put the felt back in to keep the oil.
