Lorne,

I had pretty good results using metaliized chrome paints for the tail lights refurbishing. Try to remove the rust and corrosion inside the housing and have a smooth surface. Plug the sockets with soft facial tissues or paper. Then apply the chrome paint. Using a 60 or 100 watt bulb during the drying process adds luster to the paint finish specially this time of the year. HTH.

I used POR-20 along with LEDs (there's a write-up in the Pelican how-to someplace). Because the POR-20 isn't as "chrome" as the original silver surface, the directional nature of the LEDs to replace incandescent bulbs helps. Authentic? No. Efficient and effective? Absolutely. Maybe something to consider (?) Best of luck to you.
