Throttle pedal bearing replacement

The bearing sleeve for my throttle pedal is badly worn, item 24 on the diagram, but the rest of the assembly is fine.

Looking at PET it seems this could be replaced with the pedal box in situ ? Just a matter of removing the cotter pin & sliding out the shaft then bearings ?

Does this sound right ?

can I replace the bearing without taking out the pedal box?

I would suggest just taking out the pedal box and doing it correctly. It isnt that hard and I bet the other bushings are worse than you think. It is one of the easiest and cheapest things you can do. Just my .02.

normally I would do the lot, but in this instance I just want to replace the throttle pedal bushings.

Looking at the diagrams I can't see why they can't be done in situ easilly enough ?

Anyone done these ?

might possibly be not much harder than pulling the whole assembly

see the "Yoga Positions" thread...

you can always try, then pull the whloe thing if it doesn't work well

the thing is, tho, that this is a hell-hole of water, debris & rust. you should probably pull the pedal cluster every several years just to prevent problems from getting worse

I did this a couple of months ago on my '68 and it was very easy. It took longer to remove the carpet and pedal board than to replace the bushing.

Thanks

bronze bushes arrived today ... 1/2 an hour later and I had the new bronze bushes installed on the throttle pedal shaft

The cotter pin was a bit of a bugger, but apart from that it was really straight forward to do in situ ... except when I started going dizzy from stretching my neck too much to see what I was doing

The good news is my problems of the throttle not fully returning to closed + a clicking noise when at almost max throttle pedal travel have been cured
