My Olive Green '71 911T Targa project is painted!
Just got back from visiting the body shop to see my freshly painted project...a '71 911T Targa which I had stripped and repainted back to the original Olive Green. I'm so excited to see it coming along! I was uncertain if I liked the color, but I saw another Olive longhood and decided to go for it. Here is a link to all the before, during, and after pictures:
http://flickr.com/photos/9336198@N05/sets/72157610847765071/ The car came to me with a cheap red repaint from the 80s, but the owner had cared for it pretty well over the years and it was a good rust-free tub except for the front pan. I had the front pan replaced. It had sat for three years, so I took the gas tank out and had it boiled, and will re-install it and replace all the fuel lines when I get it back from the body shop. I traded the 14" Fuchs for some 15x7s which I like for an aggressive look. Here are some pics of it while being color sanded and buffed: ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the look I'm aiming for, minus the flares and yellow headlights. I will also use the original gold badges on the rear decklid, along with the stock bumpers and chrome guards. Where can I order that black PORSCHE side decal? ![]()

Outstanding!
Yep, with the flares, the 7's are the way to go, but methinks you found some 8's there in the 2nd set of pics. Yes, no? |

Thanks guys.
Those last two pics with the 8s on the rear aren't of my car...that's just my "inspiration". My car has 15x7s under stock flares which is supposed to be OK with the tires I have on it. I thought about flaring it, but the stock look is so clean, and I wanted to keep it original. Hmmm...wonder if I should paint those sevens flat black? |

Looks GREAT!!
I have a 71 Targa fresh back from paint, would like to trade notes, will drop you an email. I also had the 14' alloys, not my lookgoing to 16 x 6's (sc black out) untill I get caught up and send them to Al Reed for the polished look that I think is required on a early car (sort of). Also did the gold script, installed a couple weeks, LOVE IT. Regards |

![]() ![]() This one isn't olive, I think. It sure seems similar though. Maybe its just the lighting? |

the owner is a Pelican and i'm fairly certain he's confirmed it's olive. definitely one of those colors that looks very different depending on lighting, camera, etc.

Well, regardless, I do like it. I suppose in the shaded part of the pics it does look more like what I always envisioned olive to be. What is it about these 60s and 70s non metallics that is so appealing? Back then they had cars that were actual colors.

Very cool. The other Targa you pictured is mine. It no longer has the yellow headlights due to a ticket. The olive coupe pictured was my inspiration to go olive.
The color varies with lighting.

syz no doubt the jelly bean colors from that period are the best bar none on early 911's AND hot rod bumper cars.
late model vw beetles have some hot colors as well. the cream and orange are way cool.
