Disasemble shift coupler?
I just bought a used coupler to rebuild for my 1980 SC. How do you get it apart to replace the bushings?
Thanks Bernie |

Bernie...
You can press or drive the center pin out....but you have to be very careful as the side pieces are cast and will crack very easily....they must be supported....go slow

Its best if you can support the steel spline and drive the pin out.

I swung by a shop (motorcycle actually) that's 2 minutes from my house and showed them the piece and asked if they might press it out with a hydraulic press for me, and then press it back in with the new bushings.
5 minutes, $5. Todd

A couple of sockets and a 4 inch vise was all I used. The small socket to push out the pin and the larger socket to allow the pin to go into. Important: The larger socket should be pushing on the bushing only and not the Al housing.
Edit: FYI: If it pushes on the Al housing, you take a chance on breaking the housing. Hope this Helps...
