Oil Temperature Gauge Face from New Vintage USA

I just bought this gauge face and installed it on top of my original face because I wanted to know what my oil temperature was. At $33 this is a GREAT alternative to replacing the gauge and sender. The end result is a OE looking gauge face. In particular the face matches other OE gauges in texture, sheen, font, and font size. Also, the markings and numbers fit well in the gauge face opening. The face looks equally original in the dark with the dash board lights on.

Mark (the owner) was very nice to work with and had no problem taking time to respond to all my detailed questions and requests. His website has some very informative and accurate instructions for installing the face. The installation is easy, relatively quick; it only involves removing/installing the gauge from the dashboard, removing/installing the four screws that mount the temperature module, and removing/installing the two screws that mount the face.

The only problem that I discovered when installing the face was that its font exactly matches all the original gauge fonts EXCEPT for the oil pressure gauge font. I can only wonder what Porsche was thinking when they accepted the original pressure gauge faces. The difference is subtle so it does not really bother me; I only noticed it after spending a LOT of time comparing the fonts close up.

The website is here:

http://www.newvintageusa.com

These pictures only begin to do the face justice. And they do not do a good job of showing how well the face markings and numbers fit in the gauge window.

Thanks again for a great product Mark!

Art,
The oil temp gauge numbers and sender was one of my first mods 10+ years ago. Your gauge lighting looks great. Did you upgrade to led's or what?

i got the kit from pelican a couple of years back and the sender they sent me I am not sure is the right one. They said you needed the "old style" sender but the kit is a newer style. I think it is innacurate so I might junk the whole thing and go to this with my old sender.

Thanks JT, but I believe these are just the OE bulbs; they look like regular incandescents.

Art - what camera/settings did you use for the 2nd pic?

I like the colored "noise"!

I'll add a "me too"...

I installed my gauge face on Sunday and it's indistinguishable from the other, stock, gauges. Looks great and easier than switching out both the gauge and sender just to get the readings in actual numbers.

RWebb,

The picture is a lucky shot. It is a point and shoot camera set for auto exposure but with the flash turned off. The exposure time was long; maybe 1/2 second. Fortunately, I could brace the camera on the steering wheel so it did not blur.

Does it hace a wide red band, a narrow red band or 3 lines with a small orange band?
The instructions are here:

Can anyone help me with the style appropriate for an '86 Carerra? My car is in the shop so I can't go out and look at what is there now.

Thanks

Scott,

I'll bet that you have style B. That is what I have in my '85 Carrera and I think all the 3.2 Carrera's had the same.

Scott my 86 has style B . I wouldn't mind getting the oil press overlay also but can't find how to order it. Went to site and put the temp overlay in cart but just can't find the press overlay to order.
