"New" axles/CV joints
Hi all,
I just replaced the rear axles on my 911. One of them was completely shrink wrapped in plastic with gaskets. The other one was not shrink wrapped, CV's had no gaskets, and one of the CV joints flopped around on that axle before I installed it. After one 20 mile loop around the block I could feel some slop in the CV joint that had felt loose. The supplier agreed to send me another shaft but this replacement also was not wrapped in plastic and one of the joints feels loose. In addition the CV's have been "spray painted" and one can tell the Lobro P/N was added ... I was told by the supplier that this is how the new ones are now ... no gaskets, etc. When I have replaced CV joints in the past brand new ones were always very tight when you orbited them in your hand ... these are nothing like that. Anyone else have any experience with this? If this is what Lobro calls new I guess there's no reason to return it since this is what I'm going to get from every other supplier? The 4 pics show what I think might be "rebuilt" CV's ... the last pic is the CV on the shrink wrapped axle that also had gaskets. Thanks, Sean ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

May I ask who the supplier was so I can stay away from them.

I insist we DO want to know.
![]() None of these are new. Certainly not the joints. I am willing to accept the boots on photo 1 & 2 are new. A new CV joint is hard to manipulate. An old one (used) falls all over the place. Michel

Guys there's a very obvious reason I'm hoping it's a mistake 'cause I luv this forum and PP. I was pretty detailed in my explanation to the sales rep but he seemed pretty confident that is how they are being supplied now.
They have no issue with returning it and giving me a refund but where do I buy a new one if not PP? I noticed on the parts site it doesn't necessarily say the axles are new??? |

In the past I've replaced just cv joints but the axles on this car seemed a little worn on the spline so for the extra $$$ I went for the whole assemblies. |

I have 2 cv joints in my project list but if Pelican is selling cv's like that I will just go get a pair of axles from a salvage yard cheaper than what they are selling them. You really cant recondition a wearing part like that. Well Wayne we need to hear from you on this.

I replaced both of mine last July and ordered them from here and both were brand new, no doubt about it, but they were the one piece for the 86 and there were no gaskets involved. Maybe they're not making new 2 piece anymore? My old ones are in good shape just had a couple splits in the boots but feel pretty good, no driving in the rain and stored for the winter. Still thought the price difference for the amount of work involved to replace complete units made it a no brainer.

I've been a daily part of this Pelican community for nearly a decade now, and have never, ever heard of Pelican misrepresenting merchandise. Never. I am 100% confident you will work this out with Wayne and his team.

![]() Just to clarify I've had 3 axles total and as I stated in the original post one of them was totally shrink wrap sealed to the point it was a PITA to unpackage and it had the gaskets ... the other 2 "suspect" axles were loose in the box with plastic end caps that could easily fall off and let grease get all over the box ... can't imagine they came from Europe like that? Thanks for the input all ... if anyone cares I'll post a pic of the whole assembly ... the axle and boots look brand new .. it's just the CV's that look "re-manufactured" and I know the dune buggy guys rebuild these things all the time. Thanks all, Sean |

cv joints are the one part of that whole thing that shouldn't be reconditioned as they are the wearing part of the whole thing. Pelican will take care of this I have confidence they will. Let us know how it turns out

Someone brought this thread to my attention. Pelican only sells *new* parts except when indicated that they are rebuilt. These are factory new Lobro axles - there are no other manufacturers for these other than Lobro at this time. We've sold dozens of these over the past year with no returns, so if there is a problem, then this must be a new problem. I will have my supplier of these take a look into this, and send him a link to this thread.
Thanks, Wayne
