The pedal on my '89 911 doesn't spring back to position. I've searched the subject and need to find a diagram of the pedal linkage to see what needs to be done.

Actually, you can search the parts section of our P-Host and see the pertinent diagrams and the likely offending springs and linkage bushings

I used to have a car that did that and it was always a spirited ride. How are the breaks?

Idea
A friend of mine replaced his clutch cable and accidentally put it around the throttle cable in the tunnel and it also was sticking. Make sure the cable is free of the other ones in the tube.
Best of luck in your search. Bryan |

Does it only stick when you mash it to the floor? if so I found my pedal arm where the cable attaches at the pedal cluster was bent over slightly and would snag on the clutch arm but only when pushed to the floor, it would release only if you tapped the clutch.

It doesn't spring back up. I had to lift it up with my toe. Good thing I have small feet
but it is a bit scary having your pedal sticking @2900 rpm sometimes on narrow streets.

Don't know how the linkage on a 3.2 is, but I had the same issue with my SC. It were the springs that pull the throttle valve closed. I only had 1 left, it went AWOL and I never accelerated that fast with the car
. Was like cruise control from hell

Had the problem briefly with my SC, and it was interference with the throttle rod at the hole where it passed aft through the firewall.
Actually, I had the problem twice: the second time was when my daughter was trying to start the car (carbureted, no chokes) in a cold airport parking lot, and I told her, "You have to pump the throttle enthusiastically." She took me at my word and pumped it hard, and when the car started, it went to 3,000 rpm and stayed there. (She of course immediately shut it down.) Turned out that the bracket below the throttle pedal, to which the short, ball-jointed rod attaches, is remarkably easy to bend, which she'd done simply by pumping the throttle, and it created interference between the short rod and some sheetmetal under the floorboard. Easy to fix, pried the bracket back into shape with a screwdriver. Lot easer to access than the firewall...
