A Wheel Project

After reading many threads about polishing , and painting wheels, i thought while I have my winters on I would give my summer wheels a fresh look. Ultimately I would like to get a set of the Jeff Alton Fuchs, but that is not in the budget. So today, while we had some sun, I decided to tackle the wheel project.

Fairly simple, just make sure wheels are cleaned an prepped properly and free of dust. I used Dupli Color primer, and wheel paint. Satin Black. 3 light coats of primer, sanding in between, 3 coats of satin black, and 3 coats of clear. Overall I am very happy with how they turned out. Also gave ma an opportunity to repair some curb rash. Can't wait to put them on car, I think it is going to look really aggressive. Thanks to all for the the inspiration.

Before

After

I like the blackout look. Well done.

I wonder what 16inch Fuchs would look like blacked out on an impact bumper car?

I am starting to think I really like this look. Did you have to remove the tire completelyy or just break the bead? Did you paint the inside of the rim as well?

Thanks for the compliments.

Zef, your Fuchs look great. Riding season is usually year round. This year though we had lots of snow. None on the roads now.

ruby911, I didn't remove the tire, just very careful masking. It would have been much easier, to remove the tire or just break the bead. I of course like to make things difficult, so I did neither. I also did not paint the inside. Just cleaned off the brake dust. A chore in itself.

I hope they look as good on the car as they do on the ground.

Jason and Syl your wheels look awesome! Inspires me to re paint my wheels some time soon. Syl, the masking must have taken forever!

My car has been hibernating most of the winter and I have had to contend with snowmobiling to satisfy the need for speed.

Should be driving the car soon though as the snow is pretty much gone and the grass is turning green. Syl, when do you usually start driving your car? I mean is there still snow in Montreal?

Jason & Sly: wheels look great!
Just finished my winter wheel project. I'm really happy with them! Dupli-color seems like it will be really durable

Did you use spacers or adapters? What size's?
I did 2" rear adapter, 3/4" front. Fit seems good

I will have to double check when I get back home. I think the spacers you listed, seem close. I will double check and advise later.

Three weeks to go....Normally I start the season on April 1....depending on the snow left....We got a relatively small winter in term of snow this year, so the April 1 will be good.

Prep and masking take a lot of patience...shooting the paint and remove the tape are the fun thing....

jasonlee - that is exactly the look I was thinking of! Your car is the same color as mine and I have been wracking my brain trying to imagine what my 17 inch Boxster wheels would look like black on that color car. Thanks for the pic - I like it! Did you do a brake upgrade as well, or just paint the calipers red?

Ruby911, calipers are painted red for now. Brake upgrade is on the list of things to do

Thanks Jeff. Just needed a fresh look to hold me over, while I save up some cash for a set of your wheels. They truly are a work of art.
