Of course attorneys get paid for their services, and people generally don't need the services of an attorney until they're in trouble (i.e., got arrested, got sued, etc.) Does this mean the attorney is taking advantage of someone "less fortunate?" Of course not. The attorney is simply providing a service to someone who needs it. And, the attorney is entitled to be paid for his services.

Let me see if I can put it in terms you'll relate to -- If you smashed your Porsche into a wall, you'd need the services of a body shop. By your definition, that makes you "less fortunate." Is the body shop taking advantage of someone "less fortunate" by charging for its services? Again, of course not.

Have a nice day! SmileWavy

Scott,
Run to the light!!! Thats it, away from the vacuum that you've been sucked into.
Allow me to put this in terms you may understand. And these are all personal opinions mind you...
Doctors are doctors, lawyers are paid professional lieyers. Tow truck drivers are a notch above lieyers
lawyer v doctors is apples v oranges
P.S. How do you like me now? :p

How do I like you now? I couldn't care less.

Tell me, though, what's life like on Mars. I've always wondered....

My personal opinion is that most everyone who hates attorneys are people who couldn't lie well enough or weren't smart enough to manipulate the system well enough to get themselves out of the vat of **** they got themselves into. These people can often be seen just outside the courtroom doors lying on the floor kicking and screaming like a spoiled two year old in Toys R Us.
Just my opinoin mind you. How do you like me now?

Many thanks

Hmmm,
I sense botox is a bit insensed by the statement above...Perhaps his feelings are no different than mine in my first dealings with an ignorant attorney. I guess its all dependent upon ones point of view.
Regardless if you admit it or not, you are responsible for the bonehead move of parking illegally. Lets see if I can frame the facts for you...

FACT
You illegally parked
FACT
You got towed
FACT
You got screwed in the process of getting towed
FACT
You chose to park illegally; no one forced you.
FACT
Stuff happens when you put yourself and car at risk
FACT
Now its time to man up and quit your sniveling crybaby antics in this public forum
FACT
Not everyone is going to bleed for you.
FACT
Me included

Perhaps you and your little group of sniveling sympathizers can start your own snivel blog, while holding each others hands and blotting each others tears.
It becomes ever more interesting where you look for the swing vote of even more pi$$ant sympathizers!!! For your own sake, if not for ours...
GROW UP!
You too, Scottieb

I'm sorry, Mr. Nine9six, I must have missed the memo that said that I needed to grow-up when making well-reasoned, rational, arguments. I guess your definition of maturity is to call people names and belittle them. Thanks for the lesson in "netiquette." ;)

Scott,
By all means...stick with your irrational, dumbfounded, lackluster argument and call it grown up. Ditto on the lesson
Peace out:rolleyes:

This from the guy who told me to "GROW UP!" (The caps, bold, underlining, exclamation point and red letters were in his original post). Is it just me, or is the "grow up" comment hilariously funny in light of Mr. Nine9six's rants and misspellings, including this last rant against Kevin?

I thought the trolls were confined to PPOT. Clearly I was mistaken.

Ignorant? Me? I'm not the one that parked illegally.

As for being a troll, I may not have contributed as much to the forum technically as some, but I've been a member of this forum in good standing for 8 + years. Once you air your issue on a public forum, you need to be prepared for what you want to hear, and what you may hear, whether you like it or not.

I for one have nothing against you or laywers for that matter. But I do have something against people without common sense.

You guys lay off Scott already. He's a good guy.

Brotok 03-18-2009 02:05 PM

This has turned into a firestorm.

This being my thread I feel that I should say the following:

Those reasonable people among you who have gotten sucked into the traps set up by the likes of Nine9six, Kevin, and Makaio, I hope you do not waste your emotional energy here. Please take comfort in the fact that for every nonsense post that they have put up, there are a hundred people who read the post, shake their head, and move on because it is not worth their time to squabble with the misguided. Their likes are a clear minority but this minority becomes over-represented in venues such as this forum because they have the most motivation to be heard as their egos are starved for support of their radical views. And rest assured that these people who take an opportunity and invest so much energy to voice themselves in such manner only do so because they have been stepped on in their whole life and probably suffer from an array of social problems. The internet offers them an opportunity to finally be heard from behind the protection of their computer screen, and if you saw how feeble they are in life you would no doubt laugh at yourself for ever wasting time on them and never think about it again. Ironically enough, their mode of conduct is truly reminiscent of "rat-bastard" attorneys I have had to deal with.

To me, as an attorney, this thread and the views expressed are tremendously interesting in a professional way. Because we attorneys so often have to wrestle with the prejudices and irrationalities of the jury it is always incredible to actually be involved with the views of the general population personally. And please believe me when I say that when you have a few characters like the ones appearing on this thread in a jury of twelve, innocent people do go to jail, and so many innocent people really are pronounced guilty while the judge and both sides stare in disbelief. Namely, today it's: this guy is an attorney so he is an ******* and being an attorney he must also be an arrogant bastard and probably parked by a fire hydrant or in a labeled tow-away spot knowing fully well that he'd be towed and now he just wants to fight it out, he deserves to have his car damaged. In court it's more like: this guy is black and a member of a gang, so he must be a criminal and deserves to be punished, guilty! Then we are hearing: the arrogant attorney parked illegally thinking he is hot ****, he broke the law and since he did break the law in the first place no one should be responsible for harm done to him. In court it is more like: the black kid broke into the car and didn't have a weapon on him when the cops put three bullets in him, the black kid broke the law first and created this situation so he deserves what he got. These are the issues one encounters in court daily and in this thread we see exactly where it originates.

For the record, I was towed in the morning from a commuter lane. I spent the night before at a friend's house who assured me that the car was fine until 8 am. Turned out it was only fine until 7am. I have no aggravation about the tow, or even the subsequent damage as I've faced this kind of thing daily through lives of others. I also accept the ultimate responsibility for the tow and turned down my friend's offer to pay for everything. But the punishment of damaging my car is not proportional to my wrong, neither is it something that someone should expect to happen when parking illegally, so I feel that I should be compensated for it.

KevinP73 03-18-2009 02:35 PM

You're not really an attorney are you?

brads911sc 03-18-2009 02:57 PM

I hope you get some recourse for your car and it does suck regardless of whether its your fault or not...

but please save the long droning defensive posts like #55 for another day. I lost interest after the first sentence... we dont need any sermons... we have all been flamed on this board... its a pretty active place... Just take it all at entertainment value and forget about what you disagree with... its the price you pay for posting non-tech postings/stories in a tech forum... just keep it about the facts...

He clearly isn't an english major but then again I aint either.
I've heard better closing arguments from first year law students. Maybe that answeres the question of being an out of work attorney.

P.S. Your advice of taking the board for it's entertainment value on non technical issues is very sound.

Cheers, and good luck with your compensation.

Absolutely agree – it is fascinating in a depressing sort of way of how this individual asked for advice (and freely admitted it was his fault for being towed) and seemed to get more than his fair share of insult and personal attack – and then people just try to justify it.

KevinP73 03-19-2009 09:44 AM

I guess it's all in how you interpret his post. I read it as someone who got what he deserved by not paying attention to the posted parking restrictions. Then without even knowing how his car was moved (flat bed, wheel lift, sling&hook, wheel dollies) starts making a list of damages that could have been caused by the legal actions of the tow service. All this in a public forum. This sounds more like retaliation than accepting responsibility for an honest mistake. To imply that the steering lock has somehow been effected tells me how little he really knows about his car and the workingsof the locking/steering mechanism. I'll be the first to admit that a careless tow truck operator CAN cause damage to a car but it is seldom something as minor as "Now my car pulls a little to the left". It's generally more like "The tow truck operator put a strap around the tie rod and now the tires are pointed in opposite directions". My point being it's hard to do minor damage in these situations.
I will offer one piece of advice, You had best have your case well assembled when you get to court because yours will NOT be the first claim, false or otherwise, that the tow company has responded to and it surely won't be the first case the judge has heard either. You talk about the prejudice that you experience as an attorney in a courtroom. You're about to experience the prejudice displayed toward people who make weak claims against tow services after having their car moved.

brads911sc 03-19-2009 10:26 AM

+1 Kevin

I will add that while we all sometimes get off topic and post entertaining stories and posts and banter back and forth, I generally come to Pelican and Rennlist to read tech posts... because I "have the while your in there disease" and like to gain some expertise and knowledge that I dont have.. Im currently doing an elephant street perf 2 complete package install, contemplating EFI for my SC and I find this board to be what gets me through and provide the information needed to do the job correctly the first time... I think that anytime you post a non-tech post with lots of colorful details, you will get a variety of responses and at that point its entertainment. I rarely read or comment on these entertainment posts, but this one grabbed my attention for some reason... If you cant take alittle flaming, then Id keep it 100% about tech issues and control the urge to "vent" on a public tech board...

appbiz 03-19-2009 10:29 AM

Stealing a quote from Rodney King "Can't we all just get along...."
Legitimate questions about his car! Give em Hell, hit the tow company where it hurts, in the pocketbook. Word might get out and save one of us from a similar experience... At the very least it will make us all think twice about parking our favorite toys illegally.
Just my 2 cents....

What happened to the fundamental "Due Process" principle? All these posts wreak of this very basic principle being completely ignored.

Well let's see. Wayne is busy running the whole show and usually deosn't get involved unless someone brings his attention to the situation, Bill, I don't know Bill so I couldn't venture a guess as to where he might be. Jack Olsen, probably playing with his brand new baby boy (wouldn't you?) or writing. Noah, Noah's got a full time job and stays pretty active in other social services. So unless someone really complains I think we're on our own here.

The thread started it's life as technical. Questions were asked about certain things that the poster wanted answered concerning damage. Certain individuals went OT not the original poster. Last night I counted 11 of the 30 odd threads on the first page what were not technical. Regardless the whole thread is still more technical than "pictures of your spouse and car".
I hope you get justice for you and you car.
