71 Signal Not working ??? help
Ive had an ongoing problem with my signal switch system on my 71 911. My signals seem to work only sometimes. For instance. I put the left signal on and it begins to work and then just stops, for no reason. Or other times it just wont turn on at all.
Any experience on what the prob might be. Ive already cleaned the switch thoroughly.. Im led to believe I may have a signal relay problem. Where is it located? |

I've got the same problem with my 70 and I've already switched out the flasher relay. ........... didn't work. I suspect that the column switch has an internal short or broken contact and I'm planning on replacing the turn signal. Mine had a similar intermittent operation..........now I have not left hand indication outside but the inside indicator is working but on the right side the outer signals work but the internal indicator isn't. The only conclusion I can make is that the column switch is gone............I'll let you know.

Whats the location of the flasher unit relay?
Thanks |

The relay is in the trunk area behind a panel on the driver's side on the far left (looking toward the front of the car from the driver's seat.) If you have big hands like I do plan on getting a few scratches or skinned knuckles......... You can unplug it from the rubber socket that it's in. Good Luck. On my '66, the flasher is up in the luggage compartment - behind the white circle.
I don't know if it's in the same location on a '71. It's pretty easy to get to on my car, so they probably moved it. http://granitehead.smugmug.com/photo...47_PStHx-M.jpg |
I located it, and believe at this point that it was only working sometimes bc it wasnt plugged in all the way. Ill give it some miles and see if it continues.
