Detailing 911 wheel wells and safety questions

Just a couple of questions.

I'd like to detail my wheel wells and want to know the best approach.

Is it safe to use a jack pad on an 84 carrera to lift one side of the car and do one wheel well at a time or do I need to some other approach?

I don't have a lot of equipment and just want to be able to keep the car super clean by doing this a few times a season.

What's best practice?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "a jack pad," but if you mean the aftermarket one that fits into the jacking points under the rear edge of each door, that'll actually lift both wheels on one side. Perfectly reasonable thing to do, assuming you're not lifting the car so high it's putting an extreme side load on the opposite-side wheels.

Do, of course, put jackstands somewhere front and rear rather than relying on your floor jack. Wouldn't want to have the jack blow a hydraulic fitting while you're nestled inside a wheel well...

thanks

Where do I put the jack stands if I've got the one side jacked up?

What are the safe locations on the front and rear side that would be exposed if the side of the car was jacked up??

Whatever you do, don't get under the car w/o placing jack stands by the TB mounts.

This is how I've done my 88

Rear:
Floor jack with a newspaper folded in half on the pad under the engine seam. Jack stands under the rear torsion bar covers, they stick out in the wheel well.

Front:
The floor jack on a 2x4 that fits in between the wheels and the jack stands on the A arm pivots.

I don't think you should be under the car with just a jack, even just your legs.

If you don't have them an aluminum floor jack and jack stands are not that expensive or hard to store.
