Question Rearview Mirror Fell Off!!!

I was driving my 75 Carrera yesterday and for no apparent reason, the rearview mirror came off. I did a search and a thread came up from 2001. Someone used superglue and epoxy with no success. There is also an adhesive pad from our host to glue the mirror back on. The picture shown is the same shape as my mirror pad (trapezoid).

Please let me know if anyone has had this problem and what the best solution was. Thanks.

Greg

Having tried several products... two seem to work very well. Permatex makes the other one, the glue is in a small white plastic vial, you break the tip of the nose and use exactly one drop of it. The kit is pretty impressive; it includes sandpaper, razor blade, and a cleaner/glue activator swab. Follow the instructions to the letter!

Another one was a similar product, but the glue was 2-component stuff in one double layer vial or tube. You crush the inner (glass) tube by squeezing the outer plastic tube. The two chemicals mix, and you then have limited time to apply the glue. Worked great. Found this at advance autoparts.

Both assume you are able to glue just a lightweight mirror mounting button on the glass, and that you are able to hold pressure on it for a minute before letting go.
I once had to glue a whole mirror assembly, a LOT more weight.. so I used a telescopic hood prop bar to make sure something was pressing the thing against the window glass for half an our. It worked too. My arms would have died in 2 minutes

+1. This is how it's done. You can get it at any local auto parts store.

I tried a couple of the parts store glues and none worked. I ended up with factory adhesive pad and it's worked flawlessly.

Actually, one winter evening I started up the daily driver and watched as the rearview mirror fell off. I ended up going to a glass replacement/interior trim shop and a guy glued it back for me. We had a nice conversation and he must have appreciated my company...when I asked him how much, he just shook his head and sent me off...
