Question White Smoke On Start Up

I did some searching on this and feel that my situation is unique.

I have about 4500 miles on a full rebuild that was completed in September of 2008. So far I have seen zero smoke - none on start up, none while accelerating, none while decelerating.

This morning I cranked her up for work b/c the weather was nice. I got a nice puff of white smoke which really caught me off guard. I drove it 4 days ago for about 2 hours - long drive down some rural roads and some highway.

When I cranked her up to leave work I got the same thing - nice puff of white smoke. In both cases it cleared up immediately. I feel like it almost had a sulfur smell but I could be wrong.

Oil level is just above mid way so it is not overfilled. I am using almost zero oil.

Car runs flawlessly and cool.

I understand that this can happen from time to time. But, since it has never happened on this new engine and since it happened twice in one day I am a little concerned.

I did all of the engine work except for the heads which was handled by EBS.

I haven't had a leak down or compression test and understand that this will tell me if something is wrong. Hopefully I am just over reacting.

Thanks,
Craig

How cold was it outside? What was the relative humidity? It could be as simple as condensation.

It was probably in the low 50s - parked in garage.

We are having some temp swings here - low 40s overnight and 70s during the day.

But it was around 65 when I left work.

hey craig, i noticed some smoke that day i was over there. i dont remember the color.
could it be seeping past the rings when sitting? would a comp check show something?

the CD unit i gave you that had the cover on it, that one is good? dont get stranded again checking it, man i felt bad when tim told me. i just want to make sure you have a good reliable spare.

i was looking at the 3.0 heads, did you knwo one of the valve springs was broken? did you ever hear anything? dont worry, not a problem, i was just curious if is something you can hear.

i may be down next friday night.

Did you only notice it on start up or was there smoke when you were following me on our drive?

Yes the CD with the cover is good. Let me know if you come into town and I will give you the bad one. Didn't know that one of the springs was broken. Which one was it? No, never heard anything and could nave been like that when I bought it.

just when you started it in the garage. no smoke behind you that i remember.

what cylinders does your car have, nikasil or alusil? you reused the cylinders right?

i think it was an intake.

if i can fix the other CD i make it a pelican loaner, perhaps even with a good coil.
