Early Car door panel alternative... Comments encouraged.

Bob at Appbiz here.

At the urging of Pelican BBS member Fritz Peyerl we came up with a new design for an early car door panel set.
The history of the development of these can be found in a post Titled "Appiz Customer Service" He spelled our Company Handle wrong in the post. We are know as APPBIZ.

Here is the link to the post Appiz customer service

Would love some feedback from you guys about them and you opinions on adding them to our product line.

The door Pockets on Fritz's '72T were shot, he really wanted to use his existing armrests, but felt he would miss having some sort or storage pockets. The pics here are of the second generation version. Modifications were made to the original concept based on feedback from Fritz and others. You can see the product evolution in the link above.

Your suggestions and comments have spawned many of our new products and are greatly appeciated.

Bob

I like this idea.

My 911 is primarily an autocrosser, and the car has had no interior besides the headliner and race seats & harnesses.

It's time to put the interior back in. While my original door panels are servicable, I like the idea of lighter weight, but still having a place to tuck something small. I've been debating between the originals, and RS style.

Besides- I may be able to sell the 1973 door pockets I don't want anymore at John Walker's swap meet next Summer.

Dantilla, those pockets are nearly worth their weight in gold. I'm betting someone is gonna see your post and snatch them up! If they are is reasonable shape their sale will more than pay for these panels!

They have a nice late 60s/early 70s look about them.

Those are great. Would look great on any early 911. Are they available yet? Cost similar to your other panels? I want them for my 71 now.

I'm goona look at the comments between now and the weekend. Will get with Scott at Pelican and get them added to their line. The production guys here are making up several sets this week. We will pull pricing together and get Scott the part numbers early next week.

I have a quick question and I apologize if I've just overlooked the answer somewhere...but do the pre-'74 door panels (the ones with the long leather strap to open the door) have a pocket option? Is this that solution (too) or is this just a solution for those who want to keep their armrests?

I bought the '74+ RS door panels with the pockets in them and I love them. I will never install RS panels w/o pockets again. But if I backdate my '74 someday, the '74+ door panels are actually "wrong" and I'd want to go back to the panels with the long leather strap. But I wouldn't want to give up a pocket.

So in all that confusion I guess I'm adding my opinion that an "early" RS door panel with a pocket would be great (if you don't already have one). And while I'm not having any problems with the location of my pockets, I think I'd like them in the front of the door better. Of course, I don't have (nor care about) speakers.

We could actually do the early RS/RSR panels (1973 long leather strap style) with this forward pocket without much difficulty. Call me about it

door pockets

They look very nice, the only question I have is that I usually close my door by pulling on the back corner of the factory front pocket (the fixed one).

Passengers side is no problem with the grip - am I overlooking something for the driver's side?

How much?

Thanks,

Steve

(Don't tell anyone, but that's kinda why I posted it!)

I recently got all of my interior pieces out of storage. I'll have to take a close look at the pockets to see if they need any work. I won't get rid of them until I decide/install other door panels.

Great ideas here Bob. Us early car guys need some good alternatives to our factory failing door pockets.

Some pics on the car with the arm rests installed would help too.....aka customers cars with products installed.

Keep up the great work!

This may be blasphemy but....

a nice light weight un-obtrusive cup holder solution would be very nice....

especially if it could fold and tuck into the elastic somehow....ducking and covering.

Those look just like the pockets on my 1971 VW Fastback. Period correct and in the family. I dig.

I personally like the very early style door panels with the full length pocket up tp MY '67, very simple and purposeful. I don't care for the '69-'73 style at all, why two different types on the same panel and those hinges, bungee cords and cardboard, geez!
While I get where you're trying to go with these panels they look a bit frilly, too many pleats.
I think a longer pocket would appear less detracting and provide more function.

David
