Oil Line Solution for 3.2 W/B&B Exh ?

Have a '85 Targa with the complete B&B set-up. I bought this used and got a great deal. I did not get the oil feed line (from the tank to the engine cooler) with it. B&B wants $200.00 + shipping AND I have to wait.

I'm sure I could Fab something up, I'm a tech by trade and fairly handy with stuff like this. My best idea was to use 1" copper house plumbing pipe with opposing 90 ends and use a very short piece of hose to connect it on each end. I would then cover it with heat sleeving. But I also would need to bend it.

Anyone else have a solution for this ? if so could you post a pic or two.

Many Thanks!

I'll see if I get a chance tomorrow to get under the car to take some pics for you. BTW, if you have to change your valve cover gaskets, I suggest you do that before putting on the B&B heat exchangers as I had to drop them about 1/2 inch (for both driver and passenger side) in order to get the valve covers off. A 30 min job took me a few days spraying WD-40 and trying to reach those far bolts with little room.

I do love my B&B dual in dual out setup, but it can be a little too loud for the neighbors.

Good luck,
Darrell

Anyone else have a non-B&B oil feed line solution?

Call your local custom hot-rod shop and see if they (or someone they use) can fab new lines.

An early car oli line will work - that's what I used on mine

Jeremy, can you post a picture of your oil line? Didn't the old oil lines have threaded fittings and the Carreras used hose clamps? Not to mention that the newer lines are larger. I need to figure a solution to this problem as well.

Thanks,
Gordon

Thanks, but it appears I have a different problem. I just upgraded to a Carrera tank on my '71 911. So I have the hose clamp tank fitting but a screw on fitting on my engine's oil cooler.
First, I don't want to change the engine's cooler to a newer one because I plan on building a newer motor to replace my current one in the near future.
Second, even after I upgrade my motor I still would like to have screw on fittings using stainless hose like I have now.
There must be a way to use screw on fittings on the newer cars. Maybe some of the racers on the board could chime in.

Gordon

here's a pic of my current hose.

Gordon, you might be able to just unbraze the fitting nipple off the tank end of your feed line and rubber sleeve it right to the oil tank, its not a high pressure line as many use the S hose to feed the cooler.

I was planning on doing something similar to that for the time being.
The fittings I have are removeable/reusable not crimp on like the newer style so it won't be hard to adapt it.
The problem for me in the future is the line I have now is smaller than what the newer cars use.

It just seems to me like a step back in technology to go from screw on fittings with aeroquip to rubber hose with clamps.

A long time ago I had one of the rubber lines wear through, that's why I have stainless hose on there now.

Thanks,
Gordon

It's a low pressure line - quit making it harder than it needs top be (unless you really want to)- All you need is to get the line away from cooking on the headers - the stainless steel line (C) that I have serves that purpose.

Here's what I came up with.

-20 stainless hose, OEM 30 mm fitting, hose clamp.
Hose installed on fitting.

Hose installed on car.

Trackrash: I have the same problem and I like your solution.
I'm a bit confused however about the size of the hose you use. Do you use a hose with size AN20?
Since I'm from Europe (Sweden) I had to covert that to European standard and got the result 32mm. Does this size really fit on the hose clamp tank fitting or is it to big? The original Porsche hose have an inner diameter of about 28mm, so 32mm sound too big.

-20 aeroquip hose is about 28mm inside diameter. I just measured the outlet fitting on my '87 Carrera tank it is also about 28mm. So that end fits fine. The problem is on the end where it attatches to the oil cooler. The hose used on my '71 was 21 or 22mm inside diameter. I had to squeese the end of the -20 hose and force it into the fitting where the smaller hose had been. If you look closely at the second picture you can see that the hose looks crimped or reduced where it goes into the 90 degree fitting. It's been on there for a while now and works great.
