Porsche Crest Oil: Brad Penn vs. Mobil-1?

I saw in a recent post a claim that switching to Brad Penn oil would help with leaks. I just had the oil changed and my shop recommended and used Brad Penn oil--I'd been using Mobil 1 (the high mileage blend).

What about the Brad Penn oil helps with leaks? I've read the description of their oil on their web site. Is there anything to it?

David

I don't know why but I use BP and oil leaks have lessened since I switched from Castrol 20W50.

Many people have reported here that using synthetics vs dino oil in cars with older seals can create a leaking issue.

Just do a quick search here for dino oil you'll find a lot of thoughts on synth vs other

BP is a partial synthetic but it still leaks less.

I used Mobil 1 once. I wasted out more than ever because of the increased leaks.

Used Castrol until I found out about Brad Penn.

Just finished draining my Castrol GTX 10W30 high mileage motor oil, pretty sure it caused additional leaks, ( probably to thin) Basically used for Winter storage and a few drives.

Anyhow I put in Swepco 15W40 and feel much better.

All the info on oil around here started to make me crazy.

So I splurged for the best!

Maybe switch to BP 20W50 in the hotter Months?

Still not sure how often to change the oil if only anticipating driving 500 miles a year.

Mike.

I must live in a parallel universe. I used Mobil 1 15/50 for years and never had any leaks, and a normal amount of smoking (a bit on startup, a bit on a hard drive after numerous short trips). When the ZDDP issue came to light, I switched to Brad Penn 20/50 and definitely got more smoking (no change in the leaks). Used more oil between changes too. I just switched back to a 50/50 mix of Mobil 1 15/50 and Mobil 1 V-Twin (motorcycle) 20/50, to get the ZDDP level right, and hopefully return to a no-smoking situation.

I went from Mobil1 15W50 to Brad Penn 20W50 and I definitely have more leaks with the Brad Penn than the Mobil1.

Interesting (scary)...

I am about to go from Mobile1 0w40 to BP 20w50 in the next week.
Never had leaks and burn almost no oil (i know, hard to believe)...
Will keep you posted.

My BP change out over time has resulted in more leaks,..but I sure as hell can't blame it on the BP, just yet,....for now, she now has her proper zinc.....

..now, on to the leaks.

Leaky Porsches stop leaking when the owner takes the time or money to fix them. Oil's got nothing to do with it.

How does the quote go?: "Take a picture of a Porsche, but it in your shirt pocket, and it will stain your shirt"?

The 2nd owner always used the 0w40 M1 when it was recommended by Porsche. it worked well, but after reading the Ultimate Oil Thread, I was scared that I was not giving my engine enough zinc.
I thought the BP or the Swepco were both a good choice.
Lets see.
I plan a valve adjustment as well so I will let you know...

I tried the Brad Penn once, and immediately switched back to synthetic. It foamed terribly at the filler neck, which needless to say makes you nervous the first time you see that green foam. Worse, though, my car's engine temps starting increasing 20+ degrees over where they were with the synthetic. This was in DE use, by the way. I'm sure on the street is works just fine.

That's what I 've heard about BP's... lots of foaming and higher temps = more engine internal friction????

Mine doesn't leak - it marks it's territory...
