Almost there REmoving my Engine I need some help

Almost there my first major project on my 1981 911 SC was to remove my engine. I only have one problem the engine is fully discounted from both engine mounts and transmission the only problem I have now is the electrical harness from the front of the car to the starter then to the rear. I've removed the starter and all the rear connection except the one connected to the engine shroud. My question is what do I do now? How do I dis attach it from the engine shroud

Please help.

THanks in advance

Be careful working under the car if it isn't connected to the mounts. What is keeping it up? Just a jack? I would keep the engine hooked up to the mounts until the last second, removing the engine mount screws last.

It will help to have several friends helping you lower the engine/tranny combo. The engine has to be lowered first just a little, then you pull back to get the tranny out of the tunnel. (When I put the engine/tranny back in, I had a second jack under the tranny so we had better control of the amount of tilt so we could get the tranny up and into the tunnel. So you might consider a second jack.)

From what I remember, you don't remove the wires from the shroud. There is a big piece of rubber that slides into the surrounding black metal that you would pull up on. Don't forget to disconnect the shift coupler from the tranny with the allen key. Also label the starter connectors. I forgot what went where after several months of the engine out of the car and I had to post photos asking for help.

Good luck!

If you are talking about the part of the wiring harness that goes though your engine tin to your starter, there is a rubber block that is slid down over a piece of metal on your engine tin( that the wiring harness runs through). You just need to wiggle it off and then fish the wires out.

it's the black harness wire on the right side of the transmission.

Thanks

The black wire along the side of the tranny going forward could be the wire for your backup lights. its connected all the way forward on the transmission up where the trans shaft enters the tunnel going into the car.

how do I disconnect black wire for my back up lights

You need to get all the way up under the car at the very end of the transmission where it goes into the body of the car on the foward side of the tranny mounts. its hard to see but there is a plug with two posts that goes into the end of the transmission that just pulls out. You can actually lower the engine/transmission a little as a unit and it will be easier to see.

Remember the ground strap at the transmission...
