Oil Treatment advice.

Stp oil treatment, dark blue bottle, zddp anti-wear agents, 1 bottle to 4 or 5 quarts engine oil.
Totaled calculated 3 bottles.
This stuff is like glue! I'm hesitant on using this!
Does anybody have An opinion they would like to share!

Thanks,

Mike

If you're going to use STP oil treatment, use the red bottle rather than the blue one (as per Charles Navarro).

Mike,

You may not wish to hear this but my recommendation is to use a good oil in the first place, not fortify something which may not serve you well.......

This is a FAR FAR better alternative to what you are contemplating as there are plenty of good oils that will protect your engine.

That was the first thought that crossed my mind reading the start of this thread. We do have valid choices here...

Thanks Curt, I kind of thought it was supposed to be the red bottle!

Steve, I guess I need to make a decision on a quality oil such as,
Brad pen,
Mobile 1, or
Shell Rotella, as discussed multiple times on this message board.
Right now i'm running Castrol gtx 10w40 high mileage. I don"t know that i"m completely happy with this oil from what I read!

Glad I did not use it before asking!

Thanks again.

Mike

Thanks, Harry,

Hate to beat a dead horse. Appreciate the link.

Believe it or not, I already have read that. (very, very helpful) Really not sure how I ended up with the Stp idea?
I will read it again, and make a educated decision on a good quality zddp oil.

I guess, I kind of thought, I could have taken a short cut by adding stp.

Better just to get the approved oil.

Thanks,

Mike

You are welcome.

The short answer is SWEPCO 15W40 or Brad Penn 20W50. The Ultimate Oil thread gives the whys.

I use GM E.O.S. assembly lubricant at each oil change. Redline also makes a similar additive with Zinc & phosphorus.(ZDDP)

I thought I read you could not get GM E.O.S. anymore?

My choice is Mobil one 15W50. All the required ZDDP with no mixing and available at Wall Mart.

Use the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50 - available at Autozone. More ZDDP than even the original 15W50 formulation.

anyone using the current versions of Mobil One or nearly any other major brand ol should read the long oil thread

also, please disclose that to any one who buys your car in the future so they can reduce their buying price by the amount needed for a partial rebuild on the motor

Just finished putting in Swepco 15w40, Love the purple color, to match the trans oil and blue brake fluid.

Sold on Swepco products once again.

Still a little confused on how often to change the oil if only putting on 500 miles a year?

Maybe every 6 months? not sure?

Mike.

Every year? Even with a harsh Winter?

My wife will be happy to hear that!

Changing oil in four vehicles every 3 Months/ 3000 miles really adds up!

Thanks,

Mike.
