losing vacuum

i am working on a 77 911 with a 2,7 engine well i was having problems installing a crane xr700 ignition system and with the help of some guys on this site i got it running, well now i am losing vacuum at the vac advance at the distributor any ideas some times its there and then its gone and i am trying to set the timing and i cant cause its in and out thanks for any help

back when I ran stock CIS and distributor.

I disconnected and plugged vacuum line from distributor permanently. It's only smog crap.

I set initial at 5 BTDC and that worked out to 35 total for me.

after you set initial advance confirm total of 35deg.

On a 77, it is a vacuum retard not advance. It was for emissions purposes. You can permanently disconnect and plug it. You will probably find your off idle throttle response will be better. Set your timing to 35° at 6000 rpm.
