Do you know how to properly reconnect Coil & CD box on 911 (69 911E with 2.2 and webers)?
I am installing 2.2 with webers in a 911E. The wiring from the CD box has several wires. The coil has a several connections and a couple of posts and I don't want to hurt the system by hooking it up wrong. Thanks. Regards,

Questions on hooking up the coil?
One or two labels placed on the wires during disassembly came off the coil wires (and all the wires in the engine bay are now covered with black friction tape (sticky type black electrical tape found on German cars) so its not easy to see the colors and origination of the wires)
Questions on hooking up the coil? T ot F 1.There are a couple of braided ground straps that go to a bolt on the coil mounting bracket on the fan shroud/housing. T or F 2. There is a short wire connected to this same ground (on the coil mounting bracket on the fan shroud/housing) that goes to the negative terminal on the coil. 3. Is there another wire that should go to the negative terminal on the coil? 4. Which wire(s) go to the positive side of the coil? Thanks again.

Wires are all connected after reading diagrams. Thanks guys!
Now that I am able to access a computer I will reach a new level in my research into this recurrent issue and see if the way I connected the ignition is correct. I think post belong in the admit your stupidity thread.
What I have learned is to use metal wire labels on parts when dissambling them in hope more labels are there when I have to reassemble the parts (read: ignition/ alternator wires) ![]() I am not going to start the car until it is checked all is correct. I have to call Ryan Noble in Jupiter next week. I know you guys don't want me to contact Loren. I need someone's hands on it.

My car is a 1975, but the 3 wire CD box should be connected in a similar manner.
There are only 3 wires going to the original CDI unit, two white wires and a red one. 1.) One white wire goes to the + coil (or transformer) terminal 2.) The other white wire goes to the distributor points and the tach 3.) The red wire is +12 volts switched through the ignition switch on the dashboard. Each of the white wires is wrapped with a grounded shield that is connected to the CDI unit case at one end, and the + coil white wire ground shield runs to the – coil terminal and is grounded on one of the posts that the coil mounts on, the other white wire ground shield is grounded on the engine near the distributor. There is a white plastic connector for the +12 volts switched through the ignition and the tach signal (black/purple wire) – just follow the red wire from the CDI unit to the white plastic connector. The red wire from the CDI unit also contains a small canister about an inch in diameter and two inches long. I believe my manual refers to this as an RPM sensor for the tach.

Wait, don't 69's use a kettering ignition vs the 70+ CDI? Not sure if that only applied to Ts or all models but this could mean some wiring differences if that's the case.

Maybe you can you help confirm how to hook up coil and distributor by looking at a pi
Joey, good talking to you. When I get back to my garage I'll call you so you can take a peek at your car's wiring. Reading diagrams and wire colors on car seem different.
Question for the forum: Maybe you can you help confirm how to hook up coil and distributor by looking at a pic? Can you look at this pic (from the old motor removed from the car) and tell me what wires we're looking at and where to reconnect them? I am trying to figure out where they come from and go to. Thanks again! What I am trying to do is to hook up coil and distributor with this old wiring and have a black wire inside of braided, also a green one inside of braided. Short wires that seem to go from coil to... And the distributor to hook up, and get the tach to work of course. Can see colors well in this pic. All this without burning up the box. Car is 69 911E with 2.2 with webers. Not sure what kind of distributor that is though, haven't seen a label on it. I am going to read the diagrams when get into the garage, but hoping this picture gives an idea of which wires I seek to reconnect. ![]()

Sorry about typo, I know in the pic it is hard to discern the colors of my wires.
You can see the 2 wires with the steel braiding (remember on mine one is green and one is black). Can see the couple of wires to the coil, and the one wire going to distributor. Walter, your wires have different colors huh? Can you rewrite the three points1), 2), 3) saying BOTH, from and to. Dan, I don't have my reference books with me presently to determine whether it is Petronix/CDI. I haven't found a Bosch label on the distributor either. The blue coil (that I am going to replace because it has previously leaked oil out of it) says Bosch. I have been away from this car for couple of weeks, hope to get back to it next week. I want to move on to its next project. Thanks again,

After hooking it all up with OP help, and Warren's, and Wayne's. Thanks again. This is some serious fun, because I know these were serious issues faced by many who have come before.
Car cranked up after second crank and idled ok. Tested one last wire onto the coil and the tach fired up (firstly was using rpm/dwell/volt meter to read rpms). Rev's good, am checking out engine currently.
