Window switch gremlins
 

So...I've replaced two switches, both to control the passenger's side window. I've triple checked the wiring and am certain I have them connected properly, but I did have a hard time with the wires in the driver's side door--they're very short.

Sometimes--increasing in frequency, I can't control the window from the driver's side of the car. The passenger's switch will work fine, though. Then it'll work properly for a while--until someone uses the passenger's side switch. Then it "fixes" itself after a few days.

Tonight, it'll only move up or down if I operate both switches in the same direction at the same time. Obviously, I can't do this while driving!

Should I replace a switch again, or is it the wiring?

Check the bulkhead plugs that are in front of the door under the upper lip of the fender. That was where my problem was.

This was a problem I was looking at tackling as well. Since I'm not near my car, where are the bulkhead plugs you are talking about?

Just forward of the door ( about 7 inches), level with the bottom of the window. they look like the same plugs that go to the taillights in the rear of the car.

I have the same problem every now and then. I found my problem to be a sticky passenger side window lift switch. Sometimes it sticks in the up position which disables the driver's side switch. I thought of replacing the passenger side switch but have learned to live with it.

Yes, those driver's side switch wires are very short. I have taken both doorpanels off several times and dread touching those damned wires every time.

I did this a couple years ago and somehow managed to get a couple wires reversed which caused the passenger window to go down when the switch was depressed and go up when it was released. Also, the passenger window switch would not work at all until the driver's side switch was activated. Try switching some of the wires around at the switches. As I recall, there are two different sized lugs which should limit your choices of what goes where. A continuity and voltage tester is handy to troubleshoot. Hope that helps.
