z-block dial gauge holder for cam timing
Hi,
Has anyone got the rough sizes of the z-block used to hold the dial gauge in the correct position for cam timing ? I need to make one so I'm looking for basic sizes of the 'z'. I'm not too bothered about hole diameters and tolerances, it's really just the basic envelope sizes. Can anyone help out ? Thanks in advance David |
David,
overall width 3/4 inches. overall length 2 inches, 1 3/8 inch high. Drilled sections are 1/2 inch thick 1 1/4 by 3/4. hole centers are 1 1/8 apart and 3/8 dia. center leg is 5/16. |
Pic Please... :)

My own dimensions (not from actual z-block):

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, instead of spending $40.00. Need to find some 3/" thick
aluminum. |
Along with the Z-block, I found that I still needed some of the components from a full Starett dial kit.
You'll need a dial indicator with a LONG, LONG tip-extension to reach the valve collar. It's no go without that. :( If your dial is a throwback to the 12-finger system (inches), do a careful conversion to the saner, sensible legacy of Napoleon who realized that we have 10 fingers. :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1238432150.jpg |
