Question about early 911 seats
I have seen early cars(pre-74) with seats that have chrome trim/hardware, and some that have the hardware painted black...and it doesn't seem to matter what model they are (S/E/T)...What came on which cars or years of cars?
I have a 73 911T, and the seats in it have the chrome trim...I don't believe these are the original seats, so I don't know what year they may have come out of...They are lowbacks with headrests...I have another set of seats I purchased that have the black trim...also lowbacks with headrests... They have different levers for tilting the seat forward...the chrome trimmed one has a rectangle plastic button that slides up, and the black hardware seats have a small lever on the top edge of the trim that moves front to back.... Which are correct for my 73 911T? Also, I notice that re-cover kits specify a different kit for the 1972 headrests, from the 73 headrests...What is the difference between them? Thanks to anyone that can help...want to make sure the right goods are in my ride!

AFAIK, 72 and later are black, 71 and earlier are chrome.
For sure my original 72 is black.

The black hardware with the 2 bolt mounting to the backrest and the little lever for the back realease are '72-'73 seats. There should also be wiring for the seatbelt light in the seat bottom.

The seats I have with the black trim came out of a 69...don't know if that means anything or not...They have 1969 dated seat belts bolted to them...but I've seen this type in 73 models as well...In photos, I haven't been able to find enough consistency to determine what is correct for what year.

djdsc & daepp,
You are right on...Thanks for helping me clear this up...although the seats came out of a 69, they do have the wiring in them for the seat belt light...apparently they were put in the 69 from a later model car, and the seats that were in the 73, came out of an earlier car...There was a receipt with the car for the purchase of a pair of used seats...these must have been them...cool...the seats with the black hardware are definitely going in the 73.... Now...these headrests are a little different from the other ones that were in the car...The ones in the car(on the older style chrome seats) are boxed on the bottom, and have a metal plate screwed to it...The ones on the 72-73 model seats(with black hardware) are more tapered...not as flat and boxed as the others...are these the correct headrests?... Thanks for all the help...with the age of these cars, no telling what has been changed out in them over the years...Thanks! Cus

The headrests with the baseplate are called the "D's" and are for the '68-70"? cars, the later ones are the "peanut" and are correct for the later longhood years.
