Need help Re-installing motor???

i have the engine out of my '75 911s and i am ready to re-install back into my car. Should i remove the transmission and bolt it to the motor before i re-install the engine or can i leave the transmission in the car? IF i need to remove the tranny, then how would I go about doing so?

I once was at the same point as you this time last year. I by no means am an expert, but I joined the eng and trans and installed them together. I found this pretty easy to do.
I could see how putting the trans in first and trying to mate them, especially mating the clutch/throw out parts would be difficult if the trans was already in the car.

So, for my first time I installed them together as a unit and it went really well.
Good Luck!

It's so easy to pull off the transmission and mate it to the clutch/flywheel out in the open, and I understand it can be tricky--never done it--to get everything to fit together in the confined space under the car.

To answer the other part of the question removing the trans would also be very easy as the eng is already out.
IIRC all you would have to do is support the trans, disconnect the shif coupler, disconnect the CV axels, remove the two cross memeber bolts, and slowly lower while pulling back so that the shift rod does not get bent.

i installed my motor with the transmission installed. As long as you line the motor up with the transmission properly, it should pop right in. I also contemplated removing the tranny to install the motor, but i figured id try it before removing the tranny. I could not believe how easily it went in. So i recommend that you at least try before removing the tranny, it could save you about an hour.
