Interior options question

I have 1977 911 with white interior. When I say white, I mean the seats, head liner, dash pad, door cards, rear interior, etc...everything except the carpet is white. I have seen other cars that have a black dash but colored seats and doors, etc...

Were these conversion interiors, or did Porsche have the option to order a black dash and red/blue/white seats?

Conversion in your case.

Car could have been ordered with linen interior which is closest to white but miles different. A pic would help.

Regards,

My car is definately original, with white leather sport seats and a full white leather interior. You can see pictures below.

I was wondering about other cars I've seen that have colored seats and other bits but the dash is black.

Are you saying you've never seen an interior like this before? I'm new to Porsches and am just learning.
This is a '77 Euro Carrera 3.0 with interior listed as White Leather/97 on the COA.

I started visiting Porsche dealerships only in the 80's, and am still learning.

"77" does list a white leather interior as an option.

Was white leather not availble most years?

My original question was: When you ordered a color coded interior, did it not always include the dash pad?

I've seen some cars with a black dash pad, but colored seats and door cards. I was just wondering if these cars were conversions or if they came from the factory that way.

Anything other than a black dash in a 911 is rare... But it was available at a cost option from the early eighties. (1983 I think)

Of course now they can do the entire interior in any colour you want but again at an additional cost. (match to sample)

You could order just about anything you wanted, if you were willing to pay for it. This has been the case for a long time but got a little crazy during the Schultz years in the mid-80's. Then, you could specify leather for most things in the interior, even things like the gauge faces.

In general, Porsche would offer some standard colors each year, available in vinyl or leather (not forgetting the cloth options here, just not germane to the discussion.) You could have all vinyl, part leather (seat faces) or full leather (most major surfaces, depending upon the year and model.) You could also order what they called a special leather interior, which was a full leather interior in colors not available in the normal interior choices. If you got real involved with the order process, you could specify things to a much more detailed level but few people did this as the order process was not well understood by the average salesman. There were a zillion choices and Porsche didn't explain everything well.

Some years you automatically got a dash that was the same color as the rest of the interior. Sometimes you got a complimentary color (black or brown.) Ditto with the carpet. Some models (open cars) they didn't want to sell you a leather dash, as it wouldn't last. Some years (later ones) they didn't want to sell you a leather dash, as they learned it wouldn't last, even in a coupe. Some years, you got to specify if you wanted leather on the dash and upper surfaces, or vinyl if you lived in a hot climate.

Headliners all used to be off-white, then black became an option, then they offered other colors (brown, blue...)

White was a color choice available on the 911 and 930, in the late 70's. That interior looks like a full leather one and I'd almost guarantee it's original.
