Gearbox Specific Forum?

Hi Wayne

I love referring to the engine building forum, and it's become quite the oracle.

I know you have reservations about cost vs effort writing a Porsche Gearbox Book, so what about a dedicated forum for gearboxes? There are some brilliant threads spread throughout the tech forum on 901s, 915s, Sportos, not to mention shifters and a plethora of custom stuff... And as these gearboxes get older, they simply need more parts and attention. Maybe tie in a gearbox wizard?

Maybe Grady, Henry, or John Walker would consider moderating it or at least running an eye over the truth vs fiction :)

Any thoughts?

Cheers

I think a better way to do it would be to have a category "plug-in" where threads are tagged with different categories. I haven't found a good one yet for vBulletin. That way, you solve this problem with a multitude of topics...

This is done on a VW forum in the UK that I frequently use and it is very handy.

have a look here

Every time you post a new topic in the Mechanical Tech forum you have to select a category from a drop down menu before it allows you to submit the thread.

Tranny forum? Why? Porsche transmissions are bullet-proof and almost never need R&R? 915 is paramount of Porsche ingenuity and last forever (unlike those pesky new Gertrag G-boxes thay fail all the time)

:D

I really like Wayne's idea of some sort of tag. I've thought this would be a great tool for some time. For example you could tag a post as Motronic related, Fuel Injection, Tranny, etc. Still, I have to say this forum is, hands down, the most useful forum I've ever used.
Good work Wayne.
