Jerky running on 2.4S engine with MFI ?

Hi all , 1973 2.4S engine has 10,000 miles since rebuild , runs fine at revs over 3000 up to 7500 .
However , when pulling away in traffic , whether hot or cold , and trying to work up thru the gears , it jerks and judders badly when revs are 1500 - 2500 range. This can only be eliminated by reducing accelerator pressure to ease revs up past 2500 before can resume normal pressure. Any attempt to push on the accelerator at revs around 2000 causes stop-go juddering and kangaroo progress forward. Needless to say this is pretty embarassing and holds people up .
Have been to tune up place , timing checked plugs changed , no misfires or backfires , pulls strongly when up to speed and on highway driving . Problem remains for town traffic.
Someone has suggested a rebuild of MFI pump may be needed. What do you think?

Before you do anything else, or ask any other questions, read all of this: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_MFI/TipMFI.htm

First thing is to change or clean the points.
If these are good, check the CMA procedure for MFI.
Probably not a pump problem which would require a rebuild.
Make sure linkage is in good shape and correct lengths.
Check thermostat hose for heat and thermostat for movement.

Have you gone through the numerous MFI threads, (CMA)? I would start there. One time one of the rods on the stacks fell off on my car causing all sorts of fits.
