Dead battery issues
Something is causing my battery to go dead and I can't find it. The battery is new, the alternator is charging just fine, and I had the stereo/alarm disconnected. Yet I just went out and dead as a door nail. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, what was the issue?
Thanks, |

Age of battery? If a battery is infrequently used and deeply discharged and rapidly recharged sulfation can occur. You wanna check your all off amperage draw, should be very low. I use a Battery Tender on the vehicles that have low service usage. My motorcycle is kept plugged into the Battery Tender whenever it isn't being used, last battery went 10 years!

Before all this, the stereo was acting weird. The stereo's flip front suddenly quit working and wouldn't flip open when the car was started. When I discovered that the battery was dead last year (it was over 4 years old so time for a new one anyway) I jump started the car so I could drive it over and have a new battery put in. Yet strangely, the stereo flipped open like it was supposed to. I had the new battery installed and when I went to pick it up, the stereo quit working again. It was a few months ago that the battery started going dead on me. Yet everytime I jump start the battery, the stereo works like normal.
My mechanic thinks the problem is related to the alarm, even though I had it disconnected along with the stereo to see if the stereo was the issue. He thinks it's related to the way it was wired in. |

Try an amperemetric tools on the positive wire of the battery to check if any system still use Amperes when your 911 is off.
