Rear main Oil Seal
I have a 1977 2.7 that is in need of a new oil seal. Motor is out and on the bench. I always put the seals in till they bottom out in the case. The one in it now is flush with the case. It could go in about another 8mm till it bottomed out.
Which method is correct? Thanks

flush is how the factory did it, but if the seal has worn a groove in the crank, farther in will let it seal on a fresh surface.

I'll try it as I have always done then and go in a little further than flush. Good thing it comes out easy!

I trust you were joking with that comment?
If not then the new seal might not be seating correctly as it should be a pretty tight fit or you risk having to re-visit it soon ![]()

I thought about that quote as I typed it. I was referring to the actual motor coming out if their was a problem. Good catch though!
