How can i tell if i have LSD

I have a transmission from an 88 930 which i am trying to sell, and was asked if it has LSD. I have no idea do I? The case number is 930 36 2J11627. Any help is appreciated.

Since none of the experts have responded--turn the output shaft on one side-if the other side turns in the same direction you have LSD-if it turns in the other direction you have a normal diff-if the room turns you have taken too much:eek:

Haaahahaha!
Is installing an aftermarket LSD as simple as dismantling the side bell of the transmission and slapping it in more or less? Or does the entire transmission need disassembly?

Does the transaxle have an 11 or /11 stamped after the type number on the bottom of the case? The 11 stamp, added after the typ number was stamped, is often not parallel to the typ number. It signifies factory Limited Slip Differential.

Sorry the picture sucks

It seems to me that this is what you described as factory limited slip, yes? If so anyone have an idea of value with 50,000ish miles?

Bill Verburg 04-10-2009 03:45 AM

915s of that era had a '12' stamped on the bottom to signify lsd.

not sure about the 930s but at a guess the '2' indicates it's probably lsd equipped.

a test would be to put it in gear and turn one side while holding the other

HI Conor

the bottom of the gearbox No' should be like this (the top one is G50 and the bottom is 915 and I cannot find one for a 930) it should have the "12" in the No' as Bill Verburg has explained.

there is still the check to do, as some one may have removed the LSD some where in it's life.

Help me out here. that is a four speed from an 88 930 with LSD, correct ?

GrantG 04-11-2009 05:28 AM

I'm fairly certain that LSD was standard in 88 for the Turbo (not an option)...

cfsweitzer 04-11-2009 01:12 PM

Yes 88' 4 speed with LSD from 930.
