Am I blind or just stupid?

Hi all. I'm trying to replace the bushings that sit inside the shift rod coupling but have no idea how to remove the old, worn ones or install the new ones.

Part is the two black bushings shown here in the kit, which I ordered from our host.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=PEL-BUSHKIT1N&catalog_description=Shift%20Bushing%20Kit%2C%20911 %2F912%20(1969-73)

Thanks in advance for the help. A search of the forums didn't find what I needed.

Maybe you're not searching the right words. I searched titles for shift coupler bushings and found several:

The first thing you do is mark the shift coupler before you remove. When you go to reinstall it should be lined up, if not do a search on how to adjust the coupler.
Here we go. Once removed you will need two sockets. I can't remember the sizes but one has to be a little larger then the pin that you will see going through the black bushings. The other will be smaller by that I mean it will be the same size as the pin. The tricky part is getting all of this in a vice without the sockets flying out. As you tighten the vice the small socket will push the pin out. When you go to reinstall it is just the reverse as removing. I hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Bushing refresh finished. But, what a B***H! Even using a vice, it was a nightmare to press out the pin. I had to go over to my Dad's and use his monster vice and even then. . .

Tough.

However, the bushing refresh was part of a productive day yesterday where I also replaced a few other parts on "stinky", a $3000 Craig's List buy. The car is has been neglected, but this summer I will be starting to bring it back to decent health. This project wouldn't be possible without this forum, or the parts available from Pellican. Thanks everyone. As I progress, pics will be posted.
