Wind blockers for Cabs - 993 version fit Carerra?
I've been looking at one of these for those spirited highway runs with the top down in the old Carerra. After a period of plus 70 mph speeds you start to feel a bit "beat-up" by all that wind. Fold down screens for the 993's seem fairly common, but for the older cars they rarely come up for sale.
Does anyone have an idea whether a 993 screen would fit on a 3.2 car? I see where this question has been asked before - but no answer has ever been given. I think that they mount to the seat belt anchors - so I assume that similar fitment is likely.

From what I understand, it's a complete waste of money...no benefit what-so-ever. Consider a baseball cap.

Joe, I have one on my 993. They are excellent, if only to make the sweet little thing sitting in the passenger seat a little more comfortable. Personally, I like the wind. Might come in handy on cold, sunny days though.
I have no idea if they'll fit an 80's Cab, but if you'd like I can snap a couple pics.

Not all of us live in sunny southern Cal Mike. Contrary to popular belief there are plenty of sunny COLD days up here in the northwest and the windblocker makes it possible to run with the top down enjoying our P cars all the more.

Factory Wind Stop, 911 cab (1985-On)
U-043-202-10 $452.25 Photo http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911L/POR_911L_miscel_pg7.htm#item26 This should fit cabs from 85-98, however I am not familiar with the installation procedure.

Does that part fit 84 Cab?
Eugene, can you recommend anything for an 84 cab with a manual top?

Too funny - I originally asked the question because there was a 993 windstop for cheap on ebay. No reserve - $150 start.
Guess what? It sells for around $430!!!! Gosh darn - ebay bidders are idiots sometimes. The guy even noted in his ad that he paid $500 for the thing from the Porsche stealership - and some goof still wants to pay $430 plus shipping plus take risk to buy an item he could get from his corner dealer. The really amazing thing is that two guys bid this thing up in big bites at a time. You know, $50 or $100 increments, hilarious or horse pucky, one of the two...

I have one on my '83 I got from Classic Additions in the UK. With shipping it was around $300. It does a nice job.

Wow, awesome Tom! Decent price too.
A few additional questions though. Is it easy to install? Does the price include shipping and how long did it take to arrive stateside? Quote:

Unfortunately I don't remember if the price included shipping. I don't think so, it may have been an extra $15 or so. It arrived withing about 10 days from ordering whick I did online. It installs using the seatbelt bolts. I changed the configuration a bit. It comes with two metal rods which bolt into the brackets which are attached to the seatbelt bolts. I switched out the bolts on the metal rods and replaced them with wingnuts so I could install or remove the blocker easier. I also elinimated the second metal rod and used heavy duty velcro tape instead. If you buy the unit, email me and I can send you a few pictures. I can keep the top down when the temp is in the upper 40s and be quite comfortable.

Hope this helps others who won't go down the path I've just trodden.
Ordered a Windstop from Pelican (U04320210) and it arrived quickly (can't fault you guys for delivery and service! Spot on!). However, my '95 993 has the fixed rear seats and this part only works for the version with the fold down rears. I little investigation shows that the part number for a 95-98 993 is really 993-561-979-03DEZ (-01DEZ shows for a 95, but it's been superceeded by the -03DEZ). Just hope that others can make use of the info. Just got to find one now.... they are still available from Porsche as I understand. Needless to say, I'm now shipping back the one to Pelican.

Steve,
Since you are up in Oregon I would try that place that advertises in Excellence - I think it is called Sunset Porsche. I bought the factory part from them a while back -but they may be out of them. I would also try emailing the big parts outfits in the UK that advertise in Excellence. These things are fantastic. I highly recommend them - even if you have to pay the full price of $300 or so. Buy the folding type if you can. Then it is like having two different cars. On a warm day if you feel like the extra breeze you fold it down. If its cooler, you are on a longer highway trip, or you are just tired of the extra breeze, just fold it up. |
