Chrome door handle problem...is there a reasonable option?

I'm converting my '86 Carrera to a '73 RS clone, and I needed chrome door handles. So I bought a pair from a '71 car.

Problem: My car has central locking, which I don't want but I'm inclined to keep it because of the expense and difficulty of converting all the hardware to non-CL components. The issue here is that the chrome door handles cannot accomodate the microswitch that actuates the electrical locking/unlocking pushrod. Only my black door handles will work.

So, my options as I see them are:

1. Pay a fortune to get the black door handles chromed - are the handles anodized aluminum or are they steel? They sure look like black anodized aluminum to me. Reanodizing is a VERY expensive option, isn't it?

2. Convert the door internals to non--central locking, and use the chrome door handles I bought. I don't even know if this is possible or what parts would be needed. Has anyone done this?

This is really aggravating. Are there any better options I've missed? For those who aren't aware, cars equipped with the CL option use a different lock mechanism inside the door that make it impossible to lock a door from the outside with the key without a working CL system. That's why I either have to keep it or convert to non-CL. I can't just disconnect the electricals.

Can't answer your basic question but anodizing isn't terribly expensive. People redo wheels every day.

swapping the latch mechanism is only a minor problem in the whole scheme of the conversion.

Yeah you're right, it's really not a major issue, but these minor problems keep cropping up and are conspiring to thwart my plans to have my car done in time to drive it to Parade.

As for anodizing, I was quoted $1,000 just to do the window trim, not including door handles or door window frames.

Someone is on drugs or looking to make their house payment,
Or as we say have given you thr FU price,
easier than saying NO we wont do it, but if you are crazy enough to come back we will be happy to do it at that price.

I would look for other anodize suppliers, maybe a lot charge 150 or so, be sure to tell them where they can rack & ground the part, some plece not shown when back together as you will have a spot, non dyed or otherwise.

I have seen some powder coating that looks very much like the bright anodize that Porsche uses... might want to look into that, much cheaper.
