Buying a windshield on-line?
Is there a way to buy a windshield for my '88 on-line? All the local glass shops want stoopid amounts of money for a windshield, let alone the install. And to add insult, I do not trust them to install the glass!

That's too bad. Last time I replaced the windsheild it was about $200 installed.
Safely shipping a piece of glass that size and shape would be an issue. |

I has the need to replace the windshield on my Touareg last week. (Too close to a gravel truck on the freeway..)
Safelite com was listed on the internet. Windshield installed was about $240.00. Pleased with their response. I too was afraid of having to pay ridiculous sums of money for a windshield.

The '88 WS is 3 times as much as non antenna versions. Do what I did and install one w/o the antenna. Then hook up an antenna and lay it in your trunk. Use a new seal. The wholesale price of a generic (not Mexican) front glass is less than a hundred bucks. You just have to find someone that will buy one for you as the wholesalers won't sell direct.

Hey, Capt. I am in the same troublesome position as you. I have put off replacing my windshield for about year. However, I have noticed some price fluctuations at safelite .com in the S.F. bay area. I guess it is tie to the economy.
