2009 Hill Country Rally

Hill Country Rally 2009

It’s time again to mark your calendars and start making plans for the 2009 Hill Country Rally. We are making a few changes to the format and logistics this year which we think will make for a better event. We are moving the HQ hotel out into the Hill Country which will eliminate the transit time and traffic from Austin to the good roads.

Dates: April 17-18, 2009
Hotel: Hill Country Inn
454 Ft. McKavitt Hwy US 87N
Mason, TX 76856

Phone # 325-347-6317 Contact is Tammy Ponder
Room Rate $49.72 We have 25 rooms but can get up to 32 if needed.
Call directly to book reservations, all major CC accepted,
cancellations can be made up until 10 PM the day prior to
check-in. Our 25 room block will be released 1 week before
the event.

Registration is now open.

Count me in!! That road looks like the one leading to the house I'm building between Kerrville and Ingram. BTW drove route 16 from Bandera to Kerrville this afternoon. Sunny and 77 degrees. Life doesn't get much better than that. Highly recommend that road on the tour. Its near the twisted sisters roads that are also highly recommended.

OK, I finally have motivation to finish my 2.7RS build (or, a date to shoot for anyways). When I get it stuffed back into my '75 914, can I come play? It's at least 1/2 a 911! Subscribed...

Will be tough to make it this year... its the same weekend as the MS150 bike ride from Houston to Austin (5 years running for me now). Same happened the first year of the Rally. Perhaps I should switch commitments

914-6 2.7 sure sounds hot rod sport purpose to me. Look forward to seeing it.

We would miss you and your sweet ride.

BTW 150mi on a bike vs 400mi in a 911..........how is that even a choice.

This definitely gives me even more motivation to finish my car so I can make this year's rally. Of course the MS150 may be a conflict for me as well, but I've got plenty of other cycling events I will be doing over the summer, however only one HCR!

I'm swinging more toward your thoughts as well. Sorry, I forgot to send some of video of the rally from last year. Had trouble getting the formats correct. I'll still work on it and hope to have something to send for the social on the first night.

Do the MS. Its a great cause. I've done it off and on for the past 15 years. Registration closed out this year in a matter of hours. And if you do it I'll donate in your name. BTW its about 175 miles depending on where people start. And of course if they finish.

I spoke with my son, Matt, about format and he said he could work with whatever you have. If you want to just send a copy of raw footage he should be able to edit and make up DVD's for everyone like he did with the prior year footage.

I'll ask the same question that is probably asked every year...

Is this longhoods only? All of the official stuff from last year was specifically longhoods, but I've heard that they only started to enforce that as of last year. What's the deal? I'd love to come and play, but I don't want to be one of those hated "newfangled" Porsches

Some background. This event was started to provide a venue for the early 911 guys to get together and meet one another. At the time there was no community of early 911's in the area. At first we discouraged non longhood 911 participation but even at our first event we had some longhood lovers whose cars were not currently running so they brought there "other" Porsche. We were understanding as we have all been longhoodless from time to time.

That being said will not discriminate it you have a true love for the sport purpose/hot rod early 911 heritage.

So if you wish to join a bunch of early 911's terrorizing the back roads of the hill country Come On. We may even get you into a LONGHOOD.

Hey,
Am I reading this correctly that it is Friday and Saturday, ie show up Thursday night? Are people staying Sat night, too, or departing Saturday dinner time?

What are the group sizes this year? Please say 5 cars/group max...

And lastly (yes, I did come last year. I'm just being a pain...) Since this seems to conflict for so many with the MS 150, have you discussed sliding it +/- one week?

You are not a pain.....

We will be arriving Fri., booking hotel for Fri and Sat stay with a Sun departure. Since we are HQ in the hill country we will not have the transit stage out to the 'good' roads.

We will be setting up 3 or 4 loops which smaller groups can drive rather than having everyone getting split up as happened last year.

We are also working on a Sat afternoon winery tour for anyone interested.

As for schedule conflicts they seem to be unavoidable.

The only time we found a weekend that was totally open....... it was Mothers Day, and that was an instant deal killer.

The registration page should be posted the end of the week.

Look forward to seeing you.

Bob, looks like fun. My wife and I drove that area when we lived in the big D several years ago. Great roads. Wish I could join you guys, but I already have a few "events" planned where I will probably see you.
