replacing electrical portion of ingnition switch carrera??
 
Can you replace the electrical portion of the ignition switch without having to remove the steering lock key switch etc,// Thank s JL

Yes you can but it's not the easiest way to do it... You have to be able to get to the small screws which holds everything together. But why not take the whole thing out?

Our host sells the shear bolts and at $5.75 each (x2) + $62.75 for the switch.

When I did mine I didn't use the OEM shear bolts. Instead I used 12 point bolts left over from another project.

I figured if the crook has a 12 point socket with him he would also have a punch and small hammer in his tool bag.

I did it recently from under the dash, on an '82--same ignition switch, as far as I know--and with a little ingenuity and maybe some modifying of a small screwdriver it's easier and cheaper than taking the whole unit out, as long as you're agile enough to corkscrew yourself into the footwell head-first.
