Oh Haha 04-26-2009 07:58 AM

I don't think he was beat down for owning a 912 but more for his chatroom speak, which got in the way of trying to understand what the heck he was trying to share.

As I pointed out, the Pelican group is a close knit "family" and seems to sense when someone is trying to "play" us. Some thought it was a joke and pointed out what we thought was a troll.

In the end, I think he was just a poor guy who got caught up in the excitement of owning a Porsche which turned out to be a rip off. I feel for him and would hope that he makes the best of the situation.

Who knows, maybe this will lead to him getting the car straightened out and he can enjoy it.

Personally, I don't give a crap if he comes back or not. If he does, I'll help him out. If not, whatever. Life goes on.

Shaun @ Tru6 04-26-2009 08:16 AM

Playa's not such a fragile tot, sure he got a little ribbing, but he's a big boy and everyone here will help him when he needs it.

"stylin thru college"?
"Ill make some doh and make it kick ass fast"?
Chicks at college dont care how fast it is just how it looks at "da club"?

For sure, correct your grammar on this site. I think I cracked a rib from laughing!!!

Seriously though, would you hand in an assignment without doing some research on it first? "Do your homework" before buying, would be the best advice you could be given.
Anyways, you're doing pretty good for a car at your age.

I have a solar flashlight that I need to sell! Where do you live???

Again, is it possible to see a photo of the VIN plate? While some here have given you some grief about your linguistic talent, you may, in fact, have a car that Porsche has no known documentation on.
1976 912E's VIN's 1-10 have, I believe, never been documented, only #11 exists and is known. So after all the grief, you may actually have a somewhat rare car. Post the VIN if possible and post on the 912BBS site. Ask Aric, as he has a detailed VIN history of all known 912E's.

For what it's worth, Playa did take the advice of this group and post on the 914 forum ( http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-914-914-6-technical-forum/470919-need-help-getting-more-power-my-912e.html ) They are also referring him to the 912 forum. Seems like a nice kid who will hopefully learn from the experience.

Matt Smith 04-26-2009 10:19 PM

Moderators? Can you get wrid of that rubbish exchange above please? It adds zero to Playa's thread, which reads well enough without it.

I had my doubts too, but it's a fun post and looks like he's learning lots already; just like the BBS is all about.

911Rob 04-26-2009 11:04 PM

Almost as entertaining as some of the OT threads! Ha, ha.
8 flippin pages of reading posts to get to this????

Hey Playa,
If your coming back and real, which I guess you are, then welcome.

I started off my Porsche ownership much worse than you (944), so hang in there, it can only get better. You're a young kid (considering I'm a grandpa) and if you like the car, cool. All you need to do is swap out the motor with something more 911ish. Lots of good deals on used rebuilt 911 engines and the work can be alot of fun. Starting off with a $5K shell isn't so bad. But owning a Porsche *is* expensive, especially as you upgrade to 400HP+ ;)

Hang in there!
Lots to learn here.

Well, I've watched this train wreck for a while now. I bit my tongue though...wanting to see Playa play it for a bit.

If I had posted though, i think it would have been more reserved. One thing is certain: the Pelican board won't hold this thread up as a shining example of "how to do it".

Regarding him calling us snobs, can you cite the post #? I missed that.

I think that, possibly, (assuming he's real) he's an slightly ignorant guy (ignorant not being an insult...he's just not that well informed) who's background and still in formation "tastes" don't align with the middle ground here, but, his enthusiasm was strong. It's really a shame to dump on that. Having youth in a group makes it more well rounded, and it seems like that's something positive. Apparently, that ship has sailed.

When I first saw the thread, i thought it could result in either two of negative outcomes, or one positive;
1- it's a farce and somebody has a good chuckle at the boards expense. no harm done. Internet fun.
2- it's for real, and the board alienates a future porshe guy.

To my eye, I'd far prefer #1.

Of course, we could have been nice, gotten a positive outcome and made a new friend......

gerlando 04-27-2009 08:59 AM

I think with any community you need to show respect for the community before you can expect to receive any back. I think both Playa and some of the regulars here could have handled themselves better, but IMO maintaining the quality of discussion on this board is more important than accommodating one outlier.

Anyhow, that's the perspective from a new member, and lateapex I'll be your new friend :-p

Playa76911S 04-27-2009 03:28 PM

Wuzzup PLAYAZ!!! :D ...Im back from a long weekend of partys and clubbin...sounds like yall missed me. Nah none of the slam downs effect me...I can dish it out too...check the "snob" call out on the 914 chatroom LOL! ;)

OK now Ill switch back to adult writing.

I made a mistake on the VIN its 9126000030. I checked it again and I wrote it down wrong the first time.

Found out I have Brosol carbs...anybody know of any good books on those?

Formerly Steve Wilkinson 04-27-2009 03:33 PM

You can certainly find information on Brosols by doing a Web search, though I don't know if anybody has actually done a book on 'em.

Shaun @ Tru6 04-27-2009 03:36 PM

Offer him $3K shipped.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/471029-1973-911t-2-4l.html

won't make your car a rocket ship, but that motor and some lighter wheels would make a real difference for relatively short money. and you've got the advantage of the 7:31 diff going for you.

Jakester1168 04-27-2009 03:43 PM

I was one of the first PP members to comment on this thread...and here we are with over 7,000 VIEWS?!?!

Playa doesn't give a rats pooper about this thread anymore, and yet I'm caught in it's damn vortex!! WTH?

LMAOROTF!!! :D

Mia911 04-27-2009 04:07 PM

you're ok playa..........

Hoffman912 04-27-2009 09:51 PM

this car has to be 9126000040

can you check your vin again for us? its 30 like you say, then either someone stole it and put a different vin on your car for only god knows what reason, you need new glasses, or youre playing a joke on us. im not calling you a troll fwiw, nor am i pointing fingers, im just saying none of this has added up to the vin you gave us. in my opinion, i believe your story, but it sounds like somthing fishey is going on with your recent purchase and we just want to help you get to the bottom of this. if you can post a pic of the vin it would be great to clear everything up for us 912 enthusiests as well. we just want to know what you really have for our own tracking purposes too. check the vin in several places -dash, door jam, under the hood, maybe even behind the dash if you want to take it apart, to make sure its not a chop. please let us know your findings :)

the 912E enthusiests on the 912bbs.org have been tracking and saving pics of every 912E they come across. only 2000 were ever made, so they have been dedicated to documenting as many as they can.

here is the thread on teh 912bbs.org where we have been following the action here. http://912bbs.org/index.php?a=thread&p=209639

summing up the thread, here are their findings.

here is the pic of your engine that you posted to pelican, and a pic of 040's engine from when it was on sale a few years back.

Quote:

Apologies, but I am a nerd and I track pictures of E engines whenever someone posts a pic of their motor on Samba, the Registry, Pelican, Ebay, etc. I have several hundred engine bay shots and I ID them by VIN. I believe that the supposed E #03 is actually the bogus RSR bodied white car that was for sale in August 2006 in Georgia and listed as VIN 9126000040. An early example, but not one of the lost first 10 or so. Do compare for yourself. These motors look very much a match- just that the engine has been allowed to get progressively dirtier, which may say something about the maintenance it has been afforded in the past three years or so. A shame, as it was very tidy back in 06. R/Dave L.

supposed 030

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3342/...89acc9.jpg?v=0

there is also the bodies..

for reference here is the car that you posted in this thread as the car you just purchased

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1240527529.jpg

here are pics that aric, a 912E expert and historian undertaking the task of tracking every 912 has. notice the wheels, the color etc. 040 was in GA, so its plausable it made its way into your hands in NC. the whale tale and mirrors must have been painted white to match.

here is 030, which looks nothing like teh car you have. it is black on black w/ fuchs.

PS, we would love for you to post more about yoru car on the 912bbs.org. its a great comunity, and everyone is very helpful with solving problems, troubleshooting, documenting repairs and common fixes, helping eachother with parts requests, or where to find teh right parts as well giving advice and recomendations. it is a great resource for these cars, and the people there are some of the nicest and most knowledgable people about 912s and porsches in general that you will ever meet.

Playa76911S 04-27-2009 10:40 PM

Yup thats obviously my car 040...I hit the wrong key on the keyboard twice! Im dislexic and have a really hard time with numbers...its a problem when writing numbers down and also if I hit the wrong key when typing I have a hard time noticing it to fix it. Sorry bout that.

I cant believe you keep track of every 912E built...thats amazing! Are these cars that much of a collectable? Maybe I dont feel so ripped off now.
