If I remember it right, some of us were talking about this auction, questioning whether a high bid of $19k was advisable for a 1974 Targa, 3.0L engine replacement or not. Turns out it wasn't:
Oddly enough, the car is over $19k again in it's current auction! Emanuel ------------------ Everybody wants a normal life and a cool car; most people settle for the car." Chris Titus 1966 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 1983 Porsche 911 SC Targa |

![]() Not a surprise. I don't think many auto deals are really completed on eBay just based on the number of relists that we see. It's OK though, it gives us that many more to enjoy. |

Note that the guy that won the last auction says the guy doesn't have a title, nor the $61k in receipts he claims in the ad. Maybe he's counting the original price of the car? :-)

Orbmedia,
This is the 2nd car I've noticed today that is back up for auction after ending in an over-priced deal recently. The other is this: The car went for $14k last week, iirc, despite the bad spray job (it obviously used to be mocha or some shade of brown) and 2.7L engine with high miles. eBay: it's a beautiful thing. The seller has no receipts (or title!) but continues to claim Receipts are in excess of $61,000.00 !!! And the bidding is even more fierce this time around .....
'course, I suppose it depends on what the meaning of is is. Maybe the receipts he speaks of have nothing to do with the car. Maybe they're for repairs to his house or something? ------------------ 1971 911T - 2.5L Big Bore [This message has been edited by cegerer (edited 06-07-2001).] |

![]() I think there are a few reasons why big ticket transactions like cars do not complete on eBay: 1. Bidder is relatively anonymous, so they can make casual bids without being accountable. 2. If the high bidder does not complete the transaction then no matter how many legal warnings or useage statements the bidder has agreed to, there is very little practical consequence to deadbeat bidding. 3. The stupidity factor. With your auction being displayed to potentially millions of bidders there is a much greater chance that an idiot is going to mess up the auction. I sold a car via an eBay auction last year. It was a 1967 Alfa Duetto in need of restoration. It turns out that it did not meet reserve and the guy who actually bought it was one of the bidders who was local to me. He came over and inspected the car before he bid and we chatted face to face. It ended up being more of a normal face to face car sale. |
